| ...about my weed use? I've been smoking pretty consistently over past 3-4 yrs. I feel great, feel/look at the world more positively, never get depressed (used to get depressed often, and feel/look/act a lot younger than my actual age. (All of these things when I'm NOT high or smoking). My weed smoking has been much more often in these 3-4 years than ever before and I see these positive changes! Also, my blood pressure is normal, when it used to always be a lot higher; ditto for cholesterol. So here's my dilemma. I only, and have always, exclusively smoke rolled joints, and the most potent pot. I have the fear that LUNG CANCER will come my way at some point. All this joint smoking has to be doing its quiet damage, right? |

| There is no evidence that marijuana causes cancer. Furthermore, there were a couple of studies wherein the group that smoked marijuana and tobacco had a lower incidence of lung cancer than the group that smoked tobacco alone. However, cancer is not your only worry, of course. There are several conditions that can be caused or aggravated by smoking *anything* (it is the smoking, not the marijuana that is harmful -- and cancer is not on the list): bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, etc. Yes, a vaporizer is BY FAR a much healthier way to get high than smoking, but lung cancer probably isn't something you have to worry about if you smoke your stash instead of vape it. Lung cancer is a very good reason to quit smoking tobacco, though. (I really should)

I worry about you guys. I'm 30 years older than most of you and I'm seeing my friends falling victim to the cigarette habit they picked up when they were young. I've already lost two good friends to lung cancer. My dad died from COPD.

| Thats a good idea buzz, it'd kinda give the site a better public image i suppose, though i dont care much about what the public thinks. Unfortunalty, there are so many anti smoking sites and they havnt done all that much to stop people from smoking or help them quit, or at least it hasnt worked for any friends of mine who whine about not being able to quit. I guess i'm lucky i never got into the habit.

Smoking anything will give you cancer dude, just cuz of the crud that goes into your lungs. The high potency of your pot prolly lessens that risk anyway because you smoke less to get high. As others have said too, a vaporizer is about the healthiest way to smoke, but a water pipe could do it for you too. It's funny too, all the good effects weed has had on you. You'd think that something that raises your heart rate and gives you the munchies would be really bad for high cholesterol and high blood pressure. The quitting smoking thing is a good idea too, and I think a lot of people would benefit from that.

Everything I've ever seen tells me that smoking marijuana does not cause lung cancer. A very large-scale study of 100,000 people had very interesting results. People who smoked cigarettes had a very high incidence of lung cancer. People who didn't smoke anything had a low incidence of lung cancer. People who smoked marijuana and no tobacco had a lower incidence of lung cancer than the people who didn't smoke anything. People who smoked both tobacco and marijuana had a lower incidence of lung cancer than those who smoked only tobacco. Many studies have shown that cannabinoids have a tumor-shrinking property. It may well be that smoking pot prevents tumors from forming. | |

| I'm not necessarily saying that weed itself causes cancer, I'm talking about the tar and stuff in the smoke. I actually didn't know about the tumor stuff though... That's really interesting... |

| Even if its the tar you're worried about, any person who smokes marijuana would also be getting some level of tar as well. That point being pretty irrefutable, its inocrrect to say that smoking "anything" will give you cancer when there hasn't been a single study proving a casual relationship between marijuana and cancer. Such a statement loses more credibility when studies have shown that marijuana/tobacco smokers have LESS chance for lung cancer as someone who only smokes tobacco. By your reasoning, that particular statistic should be just the opposite....that marijuana smokers who smoke tobacco as well (and therefore more tar) should have a GREATER incidence of lung cancer. unfortunetly for you, science has proven you incorrect. |
