| I read through the sticky on panic and anxiety attacks, and I just could find anything that answers my question. So, I've been smoking for about a year now, and I've noticed recently that smoking by myself in my room tends to lead to me freaking out more than smoking in a circle. I dont freak out all the time either, just on occasion. After reading the above mentioned article, I just attributed this to the amount I've been smoking (my new christmas present has a bigger bowl than I'm used to ) but I was just wondering why I still freak out if I'm in a safe and familiar place by myself, over not freaking out when I'm somewhere I've only been a few times before, and I'm smoking with other people, some of whom I don't even know. And as for the smoking large amounts thing, is there any way to get passed this, or will I always act the same way if I smoke the same amount of weed? I hope this makes sense to everyone.

| You freak out if you allow yourself to freak out. Just like someone can do something that makes you angry, but someone else can do that same thing and you just laugh it off. Guess why that is? Because ultimately, YOU are in control of your emotions. There is a gap between stimulus and response, within that gap we as sentient beings have the ability to choose what response we're going to take. We have natural inclinations towards certain responses based on instinct, habit, upbringing, environment, etc, but we can override our own programming to choose the response that we want to choose. If you are aware that something usually makes you angry and you don't want to get angry over it this time, you won't. If you don't think about it and just let your programming (mental and emotional) run your life, you can live your life on auto-pilot reacting to everything around you. Or you can be proactive instead of reactive, and choose your responses to the stimuli around you. So, be aware that you sometimes get panicky when you get high, try to figure out what it is about it that makes you that way (is it hearing your heartbeat so loudly? the tight feeling in your chest? your thoughts moving a million miles a second?) and try to figure out what it is about the times when you don't get that feeling (is it because your friends keep you talking so your mind can't wander on its own? is it because they make you laugh a lot? is it because you do something distracting?). If you are aware of your self, you can control your self. All it takes is motivation, practice, and a little self-discipline.

| Science can't ultimately answer that, at least not yet, because it deals with pyschology and other soft sciences that aren't as exact as something like math. The mind and emotions are very tricky things ![]()

| The human mind is like an iceberg: 10% is "visible" and the other 90% is "below the surface". Unless you've been heavily into deep meditation for many years it is highly unlikely that you have any idea what's going on inside your head. That's what makes it almost impossible to predict when or why someone is going to freak out. It mostly depends on processes of which we are not conscious.

| Even if we are not conscious of the stimuli, we can still choose our response to it, and make the situation worse or make it better. It's no different than "psyching yourself out" before a big roller coaster ride, or taking deep breaths to calm yourself down before a big speech. We may not completely understand the human psyche, but each of us does have some control over it... and the more you use that control, the stronger the control gets, like a muscle. |

| admins givin some real good knowledge to you there Smokey. I'd say it's harder than what cassius is saying to control your mind cause you don't want it to happen yet it still is happening. So i'd say another good way to bring yourself to the 'mental preperation' the admins are telling you to get in is find something that will snap you out of your anxiety attacks when they actually happen so the next time you smoke you won't be so scared (which is probably causing the anxiety in the first place). Have a shower or maybe watch some porn, listen to your favourite mellow song or even have another cone............? that might work mate |

| I never said it was easy. Quite the contrary, controlling your own thoughts and emotions is one of the things in life that requires the most self-discipline, and the most practice. But you already know how to do it on a basic level, you can psych yourself up for that roller coaster you know you're going to enjoy, or you can depress yourself about having to go to work and then have a miserable time working all week. It just takes practice and a bit of concentration. Try to be aware (not just when high, but all the time, all day long) of what you're thinking and what you're feeling -- what makes you excited, what makes you bored, what makes you happy, what makes you sad/depressed. Then when you smoke and you think you might get anxious, distract yourself with something that you know excites you or makes you happy. As L0st_St0ker said, a shower or porn are good distractions =P |

| The high you experience when you use marijuana is more then the drug inside your brain. Like is has been stated before, you can control your high, depending on your experince as a smoker, your personal charecter, ect. The mood you are in, what you've done that past day, the situation you are in, the people you are with, the amount of quality of marijuana you are consuming, all add up to the high you experience. Lastly, mental preperations are a good thing, whenever you come into a new situation that could possibly be hard to deal with.

| I dont think any one person can even try to answer that question. Wether or not someone can control there emotions is a hard thing to grasp. The way you act depends on how you were raised but as for why you do the things you do is something way too complicated for any of us to comprehend. |

The only solution for you, AFAIK, is to only smoke with large groups. ![]() Quote:
I should add that I agree 100% with Cassius. Everyone can potentially control their emotions and responses. However, learning to do so is very difficult. | ||
