| Were the voices distinct and talking to you, or kind of vague background noises? If it's the latter, you might simply have been hearing real voices at a distance and you'd never noticed it before. I find that happens sometimes when I'm high. I'll also interpret environmental sounds (wind, water, car tires, etc.) as music or voices.

| As I mentione din my other post to you on the same question -- marijuana will not CAUSE Schizophrenia, which has as part of it's list of symptoms "auditory hallucinations" -- hearing voices. You are concerned that your "hearing voices in your head" was caused by your smoking marijuana. Without more information, it would be impossible and irresponsible to try to diagnose why you heard something. Obviously this situation has raised a warning flag for you -- and it should. What you have described here is a classic sign of a mental condition that could be schizophrenia or any of a variety of schizo- disorders. You SHOULD be seen by a mental health professional for a full evaluation without delay if for no other reason than to allay (set aside) your fears. Until you have seen a doctor -- you probably should not smoke marijuana as it might trigger an anxiety attack simply because you are anxious about the possibility of an underlying condition. Pots been around for a few aeons ...it will still be here after you see the doctor | |

| Mamabudz- how can you be so sure marijuana can't cause schizophrenia with possible recent evidence? Isn't there a possibility? |

| The recent research says that heavy marijuana smoking in young males who are susceptible to schizophrenia may result in an earlier development of the disease than would happen otherwise. The methodology is questionable. The same results would occur if young males with early symptoms of mental illness were prone to smoke a lot of marijuana in an effort to alleviate their distress. |

Marijuana use dow not effect your genetics -- you are born with the genetic design or pattern you will live out your life under -- how this gentic pattern plays out is dependent on both internal and external stimuli. There has been recent allegations that cannabis use in young adult males may precipitate an early onset of schizo-typal disorders in those with a genetic pre-disposition to these disorders; however these allegations are not well supported across environmental (social, economic, regional) influences and the research itself may be biased to find this specific outcome. A connection between marijuana use and an anti-social effect on a small number of young males between 15 and 28 has been seen in the literature on this plant since the days of the British in India. ANd it was otherwsie found to be benign. So if there a small sample of males who will become obnoxious, belligerant, nasty and possibly physically antisocial when using cannabis, which I think there is, by recognizing this effect we can rely on our communities and those we have in place to protect us from these adolescent male outbursts, distract them and redirect them towards better uses of their time. There is evidence of this being a method that works quite well among humans. In fact identical outbursts among small numbers of adolescent males in most of the larger mammalian species occur, and are kept under control by the larger society of animals and the older males of the group. Elephants come to mind as an example of this behaviour. Asking that we deal with this unexceptional behaviour in our own young males isn't asking too much of our own human society, at least it isn't in my opinion. | ||

| I can see marijuana drawing out the schizophrenic in someone...but that schizophrenic was there before the use of weed. |
