| I don't think asphyxiation is the word you're looking for, as it implies suffocation. Holding your breath if anything would give you a little oxygen intoxication, a practice that goes back thousands of years. Just smoke, inhale, and exhale like a normal breath. Your lungs are efficient enough to catch everything.

Extrinsic causes include choking, toxic gases... toxic gases being anything other than thc in the smoke you inhale. I supose oxygen deprivation would be more accurate, but asphyxiation is a close enough synonym.

| Well.... heres me take on it. I HATE holding in hits and hotboxing. But i will tell you the way i inhale and exhale. What i do is i take a pretty decent hit, then breath in all the way till my lungs expand to its full capacity, taking in oxygen after i take a hit in the SAME hit. Then, with this same hit i SLOWLY breath out. And when i meen SLOWLY, i meen so slow where u might have to try it a couple times to get the full effect of it. I tell all my fellow smokers around my area to do it this way and they ALL, 100% of them, say that this has got them more high off taking pipe hits or any other way of smoking. Some people say the pipe doesnt get them high anymore, but when i told them this method, they were pleased to announce that this accusation they made earlier was now Bunk. If anyone else wants to give it a try and leave some feed back? you will KNOW when ur breathing it out slow enough, you will feel your lungs taking the thc in much more efficiently. |

| just smoke it... i don't understand the point of all this 'technique' stuff at all. if i'm not high after a bowl, i smoke another... not try and 'regulate' my breathing or whatever. no thanks, it works just as well to inhale or exhale at whatever speed i choose.

| After I take a rip I hold it for 3 - 5 seconds. I used to think if i held it for 30 seconds I would get even more high, but apparantly that is horrible for your lungs.

| Im not an expert but based on experience it is a much better high if you take the hit then expand your lungs and and exale in about 3-5 seconds at the most. Your lungs have a lot of surface air, the air is moving and thc is like glue. The rest of the smoke is just micronized ash. Get rid of that shit. Its bad for your brain. |
