Question smoking on anti-depressants?

Hey guys, recently my girlfriend smoked with one of her friends and recently she's been taking anti-depressant pills. She told me today that she tripped out kind of and would be happy, then real sad, off and on through out the high. Now im curious are these usualy side effects of smoking and taking anti-depressants, or do you guys suggest i try to get her to slow down smoking for awhile and see if it continues? I've been smoking for almost two years now and havn't had any problems like this, other then some minor panic attacks, and am a little worried. Thanks guys

That sounds pretty normal for someone who gets really high. Maybe she just smoked more than she was used to?

I agree with Buzzby. I've been on the SSRI Lexapro for 2 years now, and have never once noted any kind of interaction with pot.

Peace.

I'm currently taking three anti-depressants, two at night and one in the morning(among a small handful of other meds. Got a chronic pain problem). I thought I'd send up a trial balloon(about a "friend" taking weed for pain out in Oregon) to my shrink last appointment I had, and was very surprised a his reaction.

"If the drug was legal to prescribe here, I would to you in a second. If you have a way of obtaining it, then I believe it would be of great help to relieve your symptoms. Just remember, it's not a morality issue. The government is making hay to the detriment of it's constituents."

Just something to keep in mind.

I smoked on anti-depressants before. I cannot say for other meds, but smoking w/ zoloft makes you feel absolutely terrible.

Peace

With all due respect to Xenon, this is a good example of how one drug will have different side effects on different physiology's. I was on Zoloft for a couple of months, and it had no effect on me at all. Good or bad.

I believe that experimenting with prescribed drugs can be dodgy. But if you add in a drug, like ganja, to your existing drug regimen...let how you respond to it be your guide.

Now for those that are suffering from diagnosed(or not) mental illness, adding an unprescribed drug is prolly unwise.

I learned, while growing up in my particular small, drug consuming peer group, that consuming weed while you're in a bad mood won't necessarily put you in a good mood.(my ex wife would burst into tears almost every time she smoked weed...talk about a buzz killer!).

As this young woman is only just starting on anti-depressants, her emotional response while smoking is not unexpected.

It would be to her benefit not to smoke pot until she is stabilized on her medication regimen as the short term euphoria created by pot will adversely effect the ability to discern if the medications are allowing her to maintain a long term stable emotional balance, which is the purpose of being on anti-depressants.

Being able to discern whether the medications given to her in the lowest doses available are effective to her condition is of the utmost imprtance to her treatment at this time and should not be unnecessarily effected by smoking pot at this juncture unless there were some other reason cannabis were necessary for her health.
