| I was previously on the site a few times via a login I can't get to work...anyway, I'm kind of a newbie. Here's a quick synopsis of my health history. I'm 35, with what is officially a 'disabling' back injury. I was thrown out the rear window of a car and have had problems since. I've had I.D.E.T.'s, fusions, more cortizone shots than I can count, etc.etc., and now have I am on my second spinal cord stimulator. I was taking handfulls of pills for a lot of years w/ little benefit, and recently decided to try weed. We lived in Oregon a few years ago, so it was plentiful out there, but at the time I had little interest. I'm still taking some heavy meds, but not near as many after starting to smoke. Here's my question. I've only been smoking for a few months and lately I've been coughing a lot...not the weenie cold kind of cough, but the deep, hurt your chest kind. And a few days ago I coughed up some pretty nasty stuff, with blood being one of the 'ingredients'. How concerned do ya think I should be? Should I be honest with my doctors about smoking? I've read a litte about vaporizers...do you think that might help? Sorry for all the questions. |

| Uh...I doubt coughing up blood could be smoking related. You should go to the doctor. I'm pretty sure Oregon supports medical marijuana so your doctor may even be able to prescribe it to you. Get yourself checked out and make sure it isn't something else. If smoking really does turn out to be the cause then try cooking your weed or look into a vape. A bong or bubbler may even do the trick. |

| I'd suggest that you either smoke with very dilute smoke (by allowing air into your mouth along with it) or obtaining a vaporizer. That kind of deep cough is usually indicative of serious lung irritation. If I started coughing up blood I'd be very concerned. See your doctor and be honest. Doctor/patient privilege and HIPAA prevent the doctor from sharing the information with anyone else, unless you sign a release that allows him to do so.

| Deep chest pain and coughing up blood are symptoms of a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in your lungs). Trust me; I know from experience. If left untreated, it can be fatal. Even if you don't have a pulmonary embolism, your syptoms are VERY serious. SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY! Peace.
