| Smoking anything will irritate your lungs. Twenty joints a day would be as bad in that respect as twenty unfiltered cigarettes. There is no evidence, however, that marijuana causes lung cancer. Marijuana is one of the least toxic drugs in the world, far less toxic than aspirin or coffee, so that's not a problem. That about covers it for physical health problems. If you have a mental illness that is made worse by using marijuana, that's not healthy. If marijuana becomes central to your life and you begin to neglect other interests and relationships, that's not healthy psychologically. If it interferes with work or school, if it isolates you from your family and friends, if you can't pay the rent because you spent it on a bag, then your marijuana use has gotten out of control and your life is unbalanced. That's not healthy. You can't really say "how much" is healthy or unhealthy except as to how it affects an individual.

It sounds like you have recognized that some information provided to you in regard to cannabis was incorrect. Please note that this does negate the information you received that cigarettes and alcohol can kill you -- they can. ANd a lot of the street drugs out there arre addictive and deadly. Look around the site -- especially the MYTHS section. Find out about marijuana and it's use recreationally, medically, it's mis-use, abuse and dumb use...and some of the types of folks from all walks of life who use marijuana everyday. | ||

| Before I give my opinion, lemme just go ahead and give you my perspective/background...I use A LOT of cannabis. I get baked several times a day, every day. I will admit that there are definately side-effects and negative consequences. It is true what they say about short-term memory; I don't really have very much of one at all. Lol. I rarely make a trip out of the house where I don't have to run back in and get something I forgot to grab on the way out. I also eat a ton of junk food that I wouldn't have eaten otherwise if not for marijuana. My lungs are in decent enough shape; I eat/vaporize a lot though. However, all in all, I wouldn't say it's anything very serious in any sense. I am not lazy or dumb, and have a really nice job. Regarding addiction, I do think that it is habit-forming for sure. However, I could stop if my life depended upon it...which it certainly does not. ![]() -ntiaga

| A safe amount you say? Well i cant really say but... if you want to play it safe and smart, you gotta know when to have fun and when to take care of yourself. What's better than taking care of your life (school, work, family etc.) and still have a lil fun off MJ? Just do things the safe and smart way, keep your life balanced =) |

| Moderation is key, of course, as is true with anything in life. I'd also warn you to avoid smoking anything, ever. There is growing evidence that pot smoking can cause lung disease, if not cancer. I understand this is somewhat against the culture, but smoking is very bad for your lungs and respiratory system. Since I could definitely argue that pot-smoking is habit forming (but I won't) if you start smoking it, you'll probably continue. Vaporizing and eating it are definitely a healthier habit. If you're looking for truth, do a lot of your own research, and take it seriously. Pot is a drug. There is little conclusive scientific data about the effects of the drug itself (THC) beyond the obvious dangers of smoking. It's unfortunate that there's so much irrational negative information about the plant - but don't be irrational in justifying abuse of it, it can lead to you getting sick, or destroying your life in a myriad of ways. I would argue that unless you have some medical reason, don't look to justify doing it (routinely) at all. If the opportunity arises now and then, try it safely. If you're wondering how often you can get away with doing it without negative consequences, as implied by your post, I'd say none. You toast a few brain cells every time. You could have an adverse reaction or get sick doing it once. You could get arrested doing it once. Probably not - but the more you do it (especially smoking it), regardless of frequency, the greater chance you have of suffering a negative consequence. So enjoy it responsibly! |

so there is a small amoiunt of evedence cause it does contain carcenogens(cancer causing agents) as do almost all things we eat drink breath or smoke. You figure it out. Like a few others have said, moderation is key. No need to smoke till ya pass out(it wont kill ya) but at the same time do you have a need to smoke/use or just getting wasted/maybe just to unwind after a long day? Just keep in mind that you will build up a ultra high resistance to the effects that you feel in no time at all if you do feel the need to use/abuse heavily and that can get expensive, even if you grow.

| this is a strait forward informative article but a bit old. Might help you out A What are the long term health effects of marijuana? Classic from Cecil's storehouse of human knowledge 08-Feb-1985 Dear Cecil:It's time us smokers, tokers, and dopers heard the Straight Dope on ... you guessed it ... dope! As you know, apathy and lack of ambition are alleged to be the fate of all consumers of the evil weed. However, though I have been smoking for years, I have no lack of ambition, and in fact could be considered quite successful. I know many other marijuana smokers about whom one could say the same thing. What's the scoop? And what are the other long-term effects of marijuana usage, i.e., what are we doing to our lungs, brains, blood, and what have you? --N. R., Phoenix Cecil replies: (Column updated 1997) Well, we've now established that marijuana won't prevent you from becoming president, provided you don't inhale. As for other effects, a major review, Marijuana and Health, was issued in 1982 by a panel of scientists working for the National Academy of Sciences. Subsequent research has done little to alter their conclusions. Here's what they said:
There are still a few people who think marijuana is a major health threat. But the more common view is that, while marijuana doesn't exactly qualify as health food, on the whole it causes fewer problems than its two main competitors on the recreational drug scene, alcohol and tobacco. Granted, that's like saying it causes fewer problems than nuclear war. But you do have to ask why marijuana is illegal and alcohol and tobacco aren't. --CECIL ADAMS [Comment on this answer] |
