| We got a request from a journalism major who's writing an article about medical marijuana. He asked if we could connect him with medical marijuana patients who would share their insights about how medical marijuana helped them. Please post your stories in this thread. You might also contact him directly: Kris Kolish kkolish@indiana.edu 812 267 5293

I want to thank the admins and marijuana.com for giving me this opportunity. The article I'm writing is for a class. However, my lecturer is an editor at the Bloomington Alternative, the Indiana University community's number one alternative paper, so it will more than likely be published after the semester is over. Indiana's NORML has a Medical Marijuana bill in the works, and I intend to show Hoosiers that marijuana, for many, can provide a much greater quality of life than any other prescription pharmaceutical ever could. I want to humanize the topic, take the emphasis off of marijuana's constant demonization, and focus on the individuals who truly benefit from medical marijuana. If there are any Hoosiers out there who are currently disadvantaged by Indiana's lack of a medical marijuana bill, I would particularly like to hear from you. Localization makes stories hit home with people, and if I can change just one Hoosier's mind about medical marijuana, then I've done my job. Either way, I welcome everyone's stories and expierences. Thank you very much. --Kris Kolish

I have suffered from a sleep disorder that made my life miserable. For some reason, without some kind of medication I get only REM sleep. This is not very restful and I walked around always feeling like I'd pulled an all-nighter. After years of this, I found a doctor who prescribed a couple of meds, off-label, that suppressed REM to some extent. I could get a couple of hours of deep sleep every night and it changed my life. The problem was that one of these meds left me feeling hung over for two hours after I got up. It was also very expensive. I discovered that a few tokes an hour before bed did a better job of suppressing REM sleep and I woke up ready to meet the day. It cost a lot less and had this peculiar "side effect": I got high. A very pleasant way to end the day and make the transition into sleep. My doctor was dubious when I told her that I didn't need the prescription med anymore and what I was doing instead. I told her, "You can't argue with results!" I don't live in a medical marijuana state, so I'm forced to get my medication on the black market.

I am currently suffering from sever abdominal pain. I have had 3 surgeries and they are still unsure of what is causing the inflamation and pain. I have been perscribed any pain pill that I wanted..nothing helps except for smoking. It helps with the pain and relaxes my body so that I can sleep at night. Regardless of what they say, I still function everyday with a good job ($15/hour) and school (3.9 gpa). My doctor is aware of how I deal with the pain and accepts that this is the only thing that works until they can find what is causing me so much discomfort.

I would like to share my story about how pot helps with medical ailments. First off I live in a state that does not have medical marijuana, yet. I have hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, bipolar. Marijuana helps with all my ailments and helps me sleep at night which I was not doing before when I was on those prescription drugs. I hated the side effects so I went back to the magical herb. Thanks for letting me share my story. I hope it helps others!
