I think I know what you're tryingto ask.
It's a double edged sword I find, and you have to find the right balance. I find that presently, and over my many years of cannabis use and studying, that while my interest and focus on what I'm reading are maximized while high, not to mention the fact that things become VERY interesting, in the long run I often forget it quickly. I find that learning material sober is the way to go, review it as often as you need to, sober, then if you want you can get high to try to see the material in a different light, or find a new way to organize it in your mind or on paper while high, then review that new formulation sober.
Long answer...this is what works for me.
Only real way to go with yourself is trial and error.

yea that sounds pretty damn rad, but since were talking about it i figure ill ask, my brother is a psych major and did talked about somthing in one of his classes about if u smoke when your studying in order to remember it while u take the test you must be high, he said its somthing like your mind is somehwere else when your stoned so inorder to remeber what u studyed you must go back into that mind frame.

I can't ever concentrate on books while high. It's much more rewarding to work out or clean while high. My body awareness increases 100x, but I couldn't read a book to save my life, cause my mind wanders too much.

You may be different, though-- try it and see.

YOu also have to consider the "state learning" phenomenon-- if you learn something while high, you are more likely to remember it while high than while sober, and vice versa.

Is this really true? I've heard many people endorse it but I don't see how it can make sense for learning stuff while you're high. Personally, I get high again, and realize I forgot it.

it depends.. on who you are and how long you have been smoking.. at least in my opinion.

i know people who cant even think while high.. its probably a bad idea for them to smoke and study.

although personally i dont find that a moderate amount of pot (2-4 bowls or 1 joint) can affect my ability to think (or even drive a car, but thats another story). currently im holding a 3.5 GPA in college and smoking at least 3-4 times a day. Although i must admit when i first started smoking 4 years ago i could barely focus at all and failed a few classes in highschool.

smoking and school quite frankly do not mix. i suggest cutting down smoking during the school year as much as you can. but since naturally you're going to indulge, keep up the excercise as much as you can, and smoke AFTER doing work. I also suggest not smoking at all on sundays or other days when you're learning something new or important. in order for thoughts to be proccessed and transferred to long term memory you must go into REM sleep. cannabis can interfere with REM sleep so to be on the safe side do not smoke when you need to study.

as far as the idea that if you study high you'll remember stuff when you get high again, that's total B.S. don't even bother experimenting with it because it simply wont work.

(although you might try experimenting with smoking bud that's had somone buried in it, you never know, they just might come back in spirit and help you on the test)

I see one parallel between all of these people’s experiences. This is what I think about mixing learning and pot.

I believe that we are all conditioned to use the left side of our brain. This is not new knowledge, most or all of you will already know this, that the world calls for “left brained” or logical thinkers. Mathematicians, physicians, teachers, doctors, scientists, ect, all using the logical side of their brain for the most part. Especially when it comes to learning, instead or creating knowledge yourself. Most school subjects, especially the compulsory ones, do not include art, drama, music, ect, because these subjects do not further technology and expand society as much as math and science would. We even use our right hand to write, as a human race, for the most part, because it is controlled by the left side of our brain.

Now, here comes the marijuana. For myself, I can clearly see that smoking and getting high activates my creative, right hemisphere, and you will see that painter’s or the jazz musicians of the 30’s had their fair share of experiences with marijuana too. Especially the rasta’s and the “jah vibrations” they speak of. Getting stoned is closely tied to relaxing, slowing down, and letting the mind wander. A big threat to the great thinking and working nations.

Smoking when you have to study for a math test is a bad idea, as you will not be in-tune with the math you need to learn from the book. Your mind will wander, and perhaps you will think of something you have never thought of, but this will not help you with your math test. However, if there is no pressure with learning something new, and you’d like to look at something in a new way or create a new idea, get high and let your mind soar.
