| this is kind of a continuation of a previous post concerning Lamictal and marijuana (http://www.marijuana.com/420/showthread.php?t=41048). I quit smoking more than a year ago, and just started again recently. In the time that I have abstained, I have had my medications for bipolar disorder changed to lamictal and amytriptoline. I have noticed that my highs aren't that great now that I've started up again. Instead of everything being humorous, etc, and all that comes with a good buzz, my highs have been rather crappy experiences. I get paranoid, my body hurts, and everything seems in a painful, trippy slow motion. Last night I got really sick from a hit on a gravity bong (believed to be a panic attack). I started tripping really bad, threw up, and passed in and out of consciousness. I was in so much pain I wanted to die, and thought I would. Heart palpitations, uncontrollable twitching, sweating, the whole works. I thought I would have a heart attack, and felt that I was falling and being crushed by a large weight (I know these two things can't really happen at the same time, but it's how I felt.) I also felt like I was going to lose control of my bodily functions, and piss myself. I couldn't walk without help, like I was really drunk. To sum it up, it was a bad high. What I want to know is, could my meds be affecting my high? Was my really bad high last night just a panic attack, or could it be something else? I'm still sick from it, almost a day later, and still feel like I'm fading in and out of an alternate reality. Please help, thanks |

| It has everything to do with your meds. It sounds to me like it was a bad panic attack, but yeah, I would say with a pretty high level of certainty that it's the meds. I'm sure someone else here will be able to go into much more detail, but I just thought I'd give you a quick response. Meds fuck with your brain, bottom line. |

| I used to have those highs were everything is funny and u just laugh like crazy and u feel like ur floating. Ever since this one incident, i dont get those highs anymore The incident was, i ate 1/2 gram and passed out. It was the most painful i have ever gone through. Every heart beat was like needles shooting into my heart. i honestly expected to have a heart attack. After waking up from passing out i vomitted several times and felt like shit for a few days. Ever since then i notice that my highs are NEVER happy funny laughing kinds of highs. I always thought it was the different breeds of weed, but i noticed that its only happened since this incident. I think my body interprets it differently now i guess. Now my highs are like, i just want to sit there and stare and not say anything. If I get really high, then i want to get out of the high so bad! It is painful in my chest/heart and i talk really quietly and i dont want to talk or anything. I hate it! it sucks so bad. I wish i could cleanse my body and restart so i have the good old days highs again. :-( |

| stop the weed and wait till your meds balance out in your system. Try to smoke a small amount of pot. If you have any probs with your well being then by all means quit and get a health check up.You will have to decide to stop smoking or drop the meds. If I personnally dropped my meds. Nobody could be around my manic episodes or I would not get outta bed for days. I do hope it all works out for you and good luck. |

| It might have something to do with the medications. But you might be following into a pattern. You expect the same bad thing to happen to you, so it does.

| Having taken amitriptyline for awhile, I could almost say for sure that it is the problem. The feelings and moods that you describe are identical to what I experienced with it. Lamictal is a more benign drug, and is also a newer drug. Amitriptyline is an old drug, so I would ask the doc to maybe switch you off to something newer, because there are newer and better drugs on the market....... ![]() But, as I always say, consult with your doctor before making any decisions one way or the other. Better to be safe than sorry....... Some Where In Ded Land............. ![]()

I have bipolar syndrome as well, and I am also on amitriptyline, although my doctor / psychiatrist have taken me off of amitriptyline for anti-psychotics (please don't ask). I can say I've felt almost the exact same as you have, although strangely enough, while not doing pot. I find I can still smoke bud without having any bad reaction, but after I sober up I'll have a similarily described episode, minus the high. | |
