Hi, first time poster here, just had a question, and I hope it's in the right place.

From what I've read (searched for sore throat and read some of the messages there) I think that I burned my throat. It hurts like an SOB to swallow and it comes and goes. I've gargled salt water and sucked anti-septic, anethetizing cough drops for two days straight. Went to the Doc, and he said it didn't look to bad, but like I said it hurts a lot.

My question is, if and when this clears up, should I look into getting myself a bong instead of a pipe? I'm a very new smoker and I think that has a lot to do with how I burned myself. Unfortunatley, I don't have the cash to drop on a Vaporizer or I'd do it... Any advice? Thanks!

It's easy to burn your throat with a pipe if you're not careful. A bong with cold water in it may help. I use a vaporizer but if I pull too hard or too long, it's possible to get a mild burn as well even with a vape. Try the bong but also watch to not pull too hard or too much.

Take nice, slow, gentle hits when you smoke. You'll still get just as high. There's no rush...

You need to pay attention to the heat/density of the smoke while you're smoking instead of discovering that you've injured yourself after you're done. If it's too hot/dense, cool/thin it by allowing some cool room air in around the pipe stem by opening your lips just a bit.

Short pipe or 1 hitter and a bic lighter. I used to do it all the time in my younger days. Ya gotta really hog into it when ya fire it up. We used to call it an "Indian toker"

I don't hit it that hard or that often anymore.

that did me in I think. I packed my bowl differently today and let a little extra air in when I hit it like Buzzby suggested. Worked like a charm!

Thanks for the advice guys, and I hope the sore throat will go away soon :P

I know what you mean, but ive only managed to burn my mouth. Do you mean when a buring scooby snack hits your throat?

Getting a bong would be a great idea. Other than that, add some peppermint into your joint, the menthol soothes it nicely...
