Ive made a pipe, homemade, and, can somebody help me clear this up this couse I don't know what im doing wrong

I have a nice bowl and I use tobacco now couse I don't have any weed, and I put some in the bowl but much of it goes through it, and when im trying to inhale some smoke, nothing comes in my mouth and I get alot of the tobacco in my mouth and resulting in, me swalowing it.

Is that healthy/good/dangerous :P
