I am having acl reconstruction surgery on June 26th. I went for a pre op visit today. My mom doesn't know I smoke, but she asked a question about taking "stuff I shouldn't be taking," and if it would effect surgery. The doctor basically just said to be smart and stay away from that stuff, and that they don't want other substances mixing with anethesia, or the pain killers. Didn't really clear anything up, because she wasn't specifically talking about weed, and she didn't originally ask, or say what could happen exactly. And I wasn't going to ask with my mom there. Should I be worried about smoking before or after surgery? It's still over 3 weeks away, so I imagine I have nothing to worry about now, but maybe when it gets closer.

Damn, I can't imagine my self being under the knife. Why are you having a surgery? Im sorry for the stupid question, I just think it's really brave. But you don't really have a choice do you :/. I hope it's nothing serious

I tore my acl. I don't have to have it, but if I don't I'll never really be able to be active again without my knee giving out. I'm actually not that worried about the actual surgery, more the rehab afterwards.

| I'd lay off the weed for a day before and after the surgery. While marijuana has no toxic interactions with most medical drugs, it does tend to enhance their effects. This might not be what you want to have happening while you're under anesthesia. Besides, I wouldn't want to be high while being in the worrisome position of facing surgery. My imagination would get way out of hand.

Though you may consider smoking a bit afterwards. There will probably be pain, and the anesthesia usually causes a lot of nausea.
