Default Was it Low Blood Sugar? Worst experience ever last night

Me and some friends rolled a small joint of some weed he called "hedis (sp?) " .... and passed it around, well i only took a couple hits off of this small joint and was pretty high, i felt it as soon as i took the first hit. Everything was going fine until about 10 minutes in i got the weirdest sensation that i had ever felt. Everything started feeling extremely fuzzy... my vision was getting darker and darker, everything was fading to black over a period of about 30 seconds. I had no idea what in the world was happening. I felt myself passing out, so i tried to stand up to go inside to the bathroom, i had absolutely no balance and actually fell back down into my chair. I shakily(very shaky) reached for a piece of bubble gum because i thought it might be low blood sugar, and i started to eat that, i did immediately start to feel better after chewing on that for a few seconds. Then i went to ask my friend Tania for some water and the voice that came out sounded so far away. I asked her for the water but to my hearing it sounded like i was in a tunnel. She turned to give me the water and she noticed that i was DRENCED in sweat. It was literally pouring down my face, and my clothes were soaked. Everyone's attention turned towards me and no one had any idea what happened, i tried explaining because at this point i was feeling a little better.

I have no idea what happened, i figured it could be low blood sugar because of the bubble gum seeming to help me feel better but would i sweat like that even though it was cold outside? Does ANYONE have ANY explanation? After that epsiode wore off after about a minute, i did not return to a state of being high but returned to a somewhat normal but extremely dazed state of mind.

I suspect that joint was something other than marijuana. I've never heard of a reaction with those symptoms from marijuana. I can think of an off-topic plant that might produce them if smoked.

You might Google "scopolamine" and "atropine".

Headis...sometimes refers to the topmost flowering hads of a cannabis plant -- often referring to a sativa dominant plant -- which would cause the effect you are describing esepcially if you were not a heavy user and if you are prone to swings in blood sugar -- wither genetically pre-disposed or disposed from the normal eating pattens of our society.

And yes, a severe hypoglycemic event would definitely cause you to feel dizzy, feel the tunnel vision that preceeds blacking out and your body would go into shock which would have as a symptom a cold sweat.

Eating something would correct the event and proper nutrition should keep the event from re-occurring -- although if you have any further concerns a trip to your doctor would be worthwhile.

BTW -- if you are a female -- your nutritional needs do change throughout the "month" and where you are within your menstrual cycle will effect both your nutritional needs and your response ot pot as well as everything else you plac ein your body. Just an FYI.

I think i have problems with blood sugar, though not diabetes because i just got bloodwork and a urinalysis done recently for high blood pressure and neither of the test profiles showed anything diabetic. I had eaten during the day, though i think the last thing that i had with sugar in it before smoking (and i smoked a few times during the night without eating anything) was a few hours before this session. I was drinking beer though(only a couple).... so idn

Dear ryan , Hypoglycemia sounds like the culprit. A close relative in my family has spells of such events without even seeing it coming, if she hasnt eaten properly.

Honestly pal, take care of your body. Try not smoking, or smoking right after you eat (which is always a good idea, because then you dont get the urge to munch munch nibble munch). Establish a control so you can figure out whats ailing you.

If all else fails, seek help from a doctor ; as we are just peons

Peace pal.

Hypoglycemia is the technical name for what occurs in the body when the level of free simple sugars (glucose) in the blood available for use by the cells for energy drops suddenly.

It can be caused by any number of factors including a sudden burst of the hormine insulin into the bloodstream, increased heartrate (the heartmuscle will use available sugars quickly), the "fight or flight" response -- also partly due to insulin burst when the muscles of the body take up glucose in the blood stream.

One of the problems with the common diet of most people in the United States is that they "eat on the run" and most quick foods are based on simple refined sugars -- white bread and sweet pop drinks -- This means a great deal of simple sugar is constantly in the blood stream and when that drops it's almost as if you go from 100 RPMs to zip in 2.5 seconds.

And most people eat "hours apart" -- whereas "grazing" on fruits and vegetables and nuts and grains and dairy products throughout the day is not only a healthier manner of eating but will avoid too much simple sugar in your blood stream all at once -- so if you do get a quick drop in blood sugar levels -- it isn't as extreme -- placing the body in shock (a natural form of paralysis to either allow the body to recover or at least put you out while some big saber tooth tiger finishes you off -- these are really OLD physical responses)

So the bottom line? To keep yourself from falling into this rather uncomfortable and -- uh -- barfable -- [redicament again? Simpley have anice healthy bowl of whole grain cereal and milk before a smoking session -- Yup Cereal & Milk -- the stoner's best friend

Default Finally someone else

I hate to say it but it's nice to hear im not the only one. I used to have these exact episodes after not having smoked and then smoking some real good bud. It has happened at least 5 times and i can remember them all. I would call it "rebooting". After taking a real big hit, i would feel that im starting to black out, i would have to lay down real fast because it comes at you very quickly, then i would faint or black out and i would sweat very hard, after a few minutes i would come back and feel fine, i dont think i ever passed out completely but would always remain right on the edge of consciousness. After the heavy sweating I felt pretty good actually and not even feel high. I would proceed to wash my face and then change my sweat drenched clothing and return to the action. However, it has happened in bad places and at the worst of times. I remember once feeling it coming on while waiting for a movie theater to clear out, the movie wasnt over but i had no choice but to go in, and of course when you go from light to the darkness of the theater, you cant see anything, i luckily fell into a seat at the back of the theater then zonked out and rebooted. i heard someone go "whoa". as a matter of fact, only one time was i in a safe place where i could pass out in privacy. So i think it may be a condition of dropped blood glucose but feel it was more of a sudden drop in blood pressure. but i would also factor in anxiety that sort of facilitates or helps the episode show its ugly face. its been a long time since the last episode and ive been smoking sweet mary jane for around 16 years now, im 34.

Although it MIGHT have been hypoglycemia, you would not start feeling better immediately. It takes 10-15 minutes for glucose to work its way from your mouth/stomach into your bloodstream... 5 minutes minimum. Did you feel shaky at all? That's more of a classic symptom. The sugar contained in one stick of gum is almost nothing and a lot of gum these days is sugar-free. If you were close to passing out, you would need more like a glass or two of juice rather than a stick of gum.

Sounds to me you began to pass out. Chewing the gum and sitting down helps keep you conscious. Those are the same symptoms I had two times I passed out.

I don't know why you were passing out (or even if you were) but I would think it would have something to do with an empty stomach and the smoking.
