| Little problem... I had been smoking marijuana few days ago, and next day I had an eye test (computer, not traditional). The results were not so bad at all ;-) but there's one thing that I'm worrying about - doc said that I have an astigmatism, but it wasn't detected on any previous eye test. Is it possible that astigmatism is a result of smoking marijuana? Is it temporary or permanent (I don't think so...) effect of smoking marijuana? PS sorry for bad grammar |

| i have astigmatism. it's not from smoking pot. it's a misshapen cornea. no relation to pot at all. it won't just get better. they have that corrective eye surgery, but i don't know much about that. it just makes wearing contacts a pain. there's a little weight on the contact to keep it in place cause if it shifts, you can't see very well.

| Having an astigmatism is normal in 100% of all people. It is just that your lens is not perfectly lens shaped and that it will cause a bit of fuzzyness in your vision. Depending on the degree of imperfection, you may have to have it corrected. I am very nearsighted (about -8.0 diopters in each eye) and have a "moderate" astigmatism (around -1.25). I don't usually have the astigmatism corrected by contacts, because it costs quite a bit more. I live with the little bit of fuzz. I have a set of glasses that only corrects the astigmatism. So, If I am wearing my contacts that just fixes the nearsightedness and need better vision (hunting, driving, star-gazing) I through the glasses on and it takes the fuzz off. If your doctor recommends that you have it corrected, regular glasses do it, contacts do it or the surgery can correct it. Marijuana won't cause it though. Daniel

| Then the shape of cornea isn't changing after smoking a pot? Thx, that's a big relief for me ;-) I thought that results of that test may be unprecise. About surgery - convalescence after the laser operation is about few months (for one eye at one time). Too long for me, and I'm too young. I'll be wearing glasses from time to time, it's not so terrible at all ;] Thx again |

| i dunno if weed can be connected with eye probs but i do know that when i smoked a ounce the night before going to the eye doctor, he told me i was far sighted, then i went back 2 months later, and he told me i had perfect eye site, and it must have been a tainted test or something.. i dunno.. but i personally have my suspicians that weed will alter eye test results, i meen, cmon, when you smoke, ur eye pupils get dialated right? - that meens weed does alter ur eyes, but i dunno ![]() could be anything, i would say go back for another test, saying u have no seeing probs or something.. or go to another eye doctor for one test. whatever man, its not a big deal anyways ![]() -foild | |

| but i personally have my suspicians that weed will alter eye test results, Yea, I have a theory about that. Smoking marijuana is supposed to decrease the pressure that is in the eyeball.. That should change the way an object would be focused on the retina because the distance between the lens and retina would be shorter. If this holds true, a person that has normal vision would test slightly farsighted when under the influence. A person that was nearsighted should have slightly better vision after smoking... Again, just my theory, but it sounds right to me.. When I first started smoking, I thought I noticed a slight difference in the clarity of distant objects. I started a thread (I'd give you the url), but for some reason I am not getting full addresses in my browser right now. You can find it by doing a search on myopia. Anyway... If it does change the way you see, it is temporary, and not very much. Daniel |

| ya that theory sounds pretty true. Another thing i found is that while smoking up, since everything is just so relaxed ( as with the eyes) i feel that my teeth and jaw relaxes more. The reason i notice this is because i used to have a pretty bad overbite, and my teeth jetted out, but that was all basically fixed through head-gear/retainer/braces. Well when i'm high, it's like everything is so relaxed it just tries to go back to it's most comfortable/original state, in this case, an overbite. When i bite, my teeth feel different (more forward) and my bite feels off a bit. I think it's the same with the eyes.

| since everything is just so relaxed ( as with the eyes) i feel that my teeth and jaw relaxes more Interesting to put that with this thread. If your face muscles relax with marijuana, the odds are that would also contribute, if not cause the lower pressure of the eye. Less muscle tension=less pressure? Daniel |

| K, nevermind. I will have new glasses in next week. If they'll be incorrect and I'll be feeling preety uncomfortable wearing them, I'll go for a test once again. If Daniel's theory about better vision after smoking when having nearsightness is right then everything's ok. I'm only a bit nearsighted (-0,75 diopters in left eye and -0,5 in right). Thanks again for your replies. |

| You are right it does take pressure off of the eye, which is why it is used to treat glachoma patients. Ive heard bad things about that eye surgery thing though, like causing a build up of scar tissue ofer the eye, like a caderac. |
