| Heres the deal! I have heard that during marijuana intoxication sometimes symptoms of schizophrenia become clear. On a couple occasions I have done some really strange things and had strange thoughts while I was high. I have been smoking up for one year (I am now 19) quite regularly and have had a couple trips where I get really paranoid and delusional. These trips have only occured when I have been smoking by myself at home. Maybe it is because I am worried my parents will come home and find out but whatever for the most part I am cool when I smoke with friends. Ill give some examples of my behaviour at home by myself. Once after I smoked I wanted to put my clothes in the wash so my parents wouldn't have smelt my clothes and thought I smoked up. When I went down stairs to put them in the laundry basket, the basket was completely filled with towels because they had been seperated from the rest of the wash. I thought it was a conspiracy against me and my parents did this to find out if I was smoking. Even at the time I was thinking this I then thought it was a bit ridiculous but non the less it scared me. A second time a couple of months right after the september 11th events I smoked at home alone and heard something pull into my driveway. It was a regular van and a big middle eastern man got out holding a package. I started thinking right away it was anthrax and I actually got worried it was because he wasn't in a postal van or anything. It is just really ludicris some of the things which I have thought when I have been high. A couple other strange things that occured are that when I am trying to sleep and I am thinking my thoughts sometime jump which I have heard is another symptom of schizophrenia but I was thinking it is probly just because I am dosing off. Anyhow, I have now quit smoking for about a week because of the effects on my short term memory and body. I did have some fun times while I did smoke but I am retired now for good. In the recent days I have been doing research on schizophrenia something that really worried me during my times of smoking. With my research I have become even more worried about it. My real question is since I have had these experiences while high should I be worried? There is no one in my family that I am aware of that has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Another contributing factor that has me worrying is the fact that I am 19 and these are the prime years for developing schizophrenia. Please give me some info on what you all think it would be greatly appreciated. ![]() | |

| I think you just got high, and like a lot of people , you've experienced paranoia while high. I bet once it's legalized, nobody will be feeling paranoid, because its always just about getting caught. Also, creativity is boosted while high, and taht mixed with the thought of getting caught, can turn anything into a conspiracy. It seems like you're just blowing things up. You just gotta chill ![]()

| Dude, you're just freaking out. Every stoner freaks out sometimes. If there's no history of schizophrenia in your family then I doubt you have much to worry about. If you don't want to take my word, see a psychologist. I think being high makes people have greater propensity to believe the random thoughts that pop into their heads out of their subconscious, so if you think too much about things that are scary, you'll actually start believing it. I've freaked out before. I actually believed stuff like "I'm thinking all weird. Maybe I have a brain tumor." and "I can feel my heart beating. I must be having a heart attack." And when the high wears off, and I'm still alive, it adds credibility to the theory that people believe crazy shiz when they're ripped. |

| Dear MP: It sounds like you might be on the cusp of a developing anxiety disorder and your decision to stay away from recreational mind expanding of any sort right now is a prudent choice. I think you should discuss your concerns with a doctor or counselor trained to provide advice and counsel for these ailments. This has been a very difficult autumn and early winter for many people and the feelings you are experiencing can be recognized as signs of problems from very minor and easily treatable to the possibility of problems more serious concern. You are handling this situation and your concerns in a proper and mature manner and am am satisfied that you will find the help you are seeking. Let us know how you are doing over the coming days and weeks. Hugz Mama Budz | |

| Thanks for the insight MamaBudz. Now that I looked into anxiety disorder a little bit more it seems I have had many of the symptoms listed for years. It may have been that I just didn't know there was something wrong this whole time and I think marijuana probly made me actually release that I had some sort of problem! I appreciate your concern! | |

| d00d if you were schizophrenic, you would be experiencing these fears and paranoia events when you are not stoned.. plus.. most schizophrenics dont even think there is anything wrong with themselves... so.. dont worry. it will become apparents to you, and others that you are schizophrenic when you think that people are trying to invade your house, because you are a special agent for the FBI heh really.. no joke... stuff like that happens to schizphrenics.. its awfull. dont worry, be happy, and, hey, it might be a good thing.. or a bad thing.. but.. if you have schizophrenica (which i am sure you are just paranoidf about) you have had it since day one of your life... its just at this time and age that the effects start happening... weed didn;t cause it, remember that.. but.. if you get paranoid (so paranoid a high isn;t fun, but scary) dont smoke weed... it wont bring joy but it will bring unhappyness. hope this helps foild | |

| that same **** used to happen to me sorta when i blazed by myself. i would get all scared think the weed was laced with somthing. thats why i stopped doing it by myself and the same **** happens to me when i'm at my house doing it with my friends. i think you'll be fine just don't do it at your house or by yourself. i think from my experience is that your high depends on your surroundings. | |

| For some reason, at the beginning of the school year when I smoked at lunch with a friend, I would get VERY paranoid. Basically, I was thinking that the park maintainence guys were coming after me. Everytime I went to the park, the trucks would drive past us or they would just appear. One time there were 6 trucks parked in the field, which was just crazy. But I think that was either the bud or something else, because I never used to get paranoid and don't anymore. In fact it was only from that 2 ounce sack I got that made me paranoid... hmmmm |
