Default I'm not too sure, but here is my experience

I don't know exactly whats up with that...I was actually wondering the same thing.

See, I smoke weed a lot too, and as a result I often get the munchies (Like any smoker would).
Well, when I get the munchies, I eat and eat and eat and I don't seem to gain any weight from it. I have always had a pretty good metabolism though and I work out from time to time, so that might be a factor...So, if you work out occasionally (or even better, often) I think you should be cool. One thing that seems to support the idea that weed speeds up metabolism is that when I eat a ton of crap and then go to bed pretty much right after, I am unusually hungry the next morning. Maybe it does speed up metabolism.....I realize I have pretty much told you nothing, but hey, I wanted to post a response! peace out

yes... not only do munchies make you overeat, it brings your high down faster
try as hard as u can to eat as little as possible while high, or eat healthy foods.
i have found, eating granny smith apples is damn good! - one time my friend told me that they are natures candy, so i ate them like they were real candy, core and all
haha that was hillarious.
P.S. the core actually wasn't bad @ all

I have a naturally high metabolism and I smoke everyday and i haven't gained any weight. But i also have a very physical job (loading trucks for a major shipping company), so that may factor in as well. I don't think toking would have any effect on your metabolism. If you really want to get in shape I'll tell you what you do. First, start excercising. I'd recommend distance running (start out at like a mile and work your way up) and weight training. Second is your diet. Cut out most junkfood. You can eat when you're hungry, just eat an apple instead of junkfood. I would also cut out most soda. This advice comes from a former wrestler so i know the healthy and unhealthy ways to get in shape and lose weight. If you needed to lose 2 pounds in 45 minutes i can tell you how to do that too.

I have been smoking for over a year and haven't noticed any weight gain from the munchies. But then again I am skinny and I never can gain weight no matter how much food i eat.

There is no evidence that marijuana effects metabolism.

If you are eating and exercising normally and do not have a sedentary lifestyle, I encourage you to visit a physician so that you can be tested for a metabolic disorder such as a thryorid disorder or other endocrinological disorder.

Again there is no scientific evicence that marijuana has any affect on the metabolism or the endocrine (hormonal) systems.

What others have mentioned to you is that marijuana is an appetite inducer (THC) and is used as such medically in form in Marinol pills for just such a puprose.

Marijuana is also a sporific, sleep inducer and relaxant making you less motivated to "get up and get going" to do physical things (although does therefby assists in concentrating on work requiring long hours in one spot such as computer programming and website building). So less movement does require less energy, requiring less calories and storing those unused calories as fat and thereby increasing weight gain.

So the bottom line is if you are concerned about your health in any way, get a physical. If you aren;t covered by insurance, head toa clinic ~ if you are ill there are programs to help pay the cost of your illness if it is effecting your ability to work. There's always help and we can help you find it.

By the way, notice how smoking marijuana makes you MORE aware of yourself, jealth and your desire to be the best you can achieve being ~ THERE GOES ANOTHER MYTH ABOUT STONERS BEING AN UNMOTIVATED GROUP!
