Red face Sleep Disorders

I believe that I suffer from a sleep disorder called Restless Leg Syndrome. I say I believe because after months and years of complaining my parents finally sent me to a doctor. Unfortunatly they sent me to a chiropractic doctor who refused to diagnose RLS because I don't kick at night. All the literature I've read on the subject says that kicking is a different disorder that sometimes goes along w/ RLS. You know that feeling in your legs and knees when you've been riding in a car for hours and if you don't stretch your legs you'll go nuts. I have that sensation for hours on end no matter how much I stretch. It happens mostly at night and keeps me awake. I have found that marijuana is about the only thing I can do to get to sleep at a decent hour. I'm debating going to a sleep specialist, but I know that the drugs prescribed for this are the same thing prescribed for Parkinson's disease and I don't think I want to be on them.

Has anyone else experienced this or other sleep disorders?

That sounds like sleep apnea....SEE A DOCTOR. From what I understand it's treatable and if left untreated can be dangerous.

Hmm... I can't ever sleep at all. Ill get this wierd fieling in my groing (don't laugh) and like a little down my thighs. I also sometimes get it in class and it makes me restless, and its annoying. I think its much like what you said. The feeling is so annoying that I can't do anything... Marijuana helps it. Some nights, I end up just putting on some sweats, sneaking out, and running about 5 miles. I'm really interested on having an "expert" respond to this. Thanks

Peace Out

Techno_trancer: That is sleep apnea, I just learned it in my psychology class (lol). You should really consider going to either a medical doctor or a psychologist to see if they can help you. I'm at a college dorm with small fvckin beds so I pretty much have to sleep on my back .

Okay we have two sleep disorders being discussed here and they are both important ...

Let's deal with the first first...

Restless Leg Syndrome:

Mama's got a friend who was just diagnosed with that ~ prescription this person given was Klonopin which is an anti-seizure medication. It's a pretty strong medication with some scarey possible side effects so Mama's a bit concerned and will be doing some research on both problem and possible treatments including using marijuana or if marijuana should be avoided Hey, Mama's gotta tell the truth...

SLEEP APNEA:

Get thee to a sleep specialist. Also, your smoking is causing your soft palate muscle to expand and enlarge...yup the muscle in the back of your throat you use to inhale real dep and get a rip offa nice bong of doob? Same one that's relaxing into your treachea and causing apneatic sleep.

You will not always awake to a full state of awakeness from aspyxia, you will simply become more and more used to ixygen deprivation in your brain while sleeping. You;ll start to slow down and find you are NEVER really awke. So go NOW...

By the way, drinking cold water will decrease the swelling of the soft palate and back ofthe throat, easing the effect of your smoking on those soft tissues and helping to cut back on the ffects of the smoking.

A simple oxygen machine at night (yeah...you may get to sleep with O2 but we can't discuss the effects of other substances that are sometimes used for recreational use as well as medical reasons on this forum its a "nono" and I would have to {delete} it) would also help towards breaking the apnea pattern. A lot of research has been done in the past 5 and 10 years on this problem and it's pretty well kicked. Take advantage of the Non Surgical means of addressing this while it still isn't a problem deal?
