Default Amazingly bad high for a non-newbie w/ med grade...eep?

I've been smoking weed for almost a year now... maybe a little more. Up to this point, I've never had a "bad" high. I usually smoke anywhere from once a month to twice a weekend (ie: if I've got some, I'll smoke it. If I don't, it doesn't bother me). Sometimes I smoke with friends, other times alone (Nothing I do is really regular or scheduled it seems).

About three weeks ago I had my first experiance with a bad high... I smoked the same ammount I had usually smoked, and nothing more. In fact, I was smoking part of an 1/8th that I had smoked from 3 times before w/great results, so it wasn't bad weed.

I was fine for about thirty minutes and then all of a sudden this feeling hit me... Its hard to describe, but I felt like "What if everything I ever thought was bull****, actually wasn't?": all the propoganda, etc.... the bullsh*t people feed us (not JUST about weed, but MOSTLY about weed).

This wouldn't go away for about an hour, it really got me depressed, so I eventually just layed down and went to sleep.

I thought this was wierd, but I more or less wrote it off as one bad experiance. However, I smoked last weekend and although I didn't get depressed again, my thoughts were a bit preoccupied with the events of the last time, and it ruined my high.

Does this happen to vet smokers? I could see this easily happening to a complete newb, or with some bad grade weed, or even if I had just smoked more than I usually do.... but none of the above fit.

Am I going to be preoccupied with these thoughts forever?

I have heard/experienced this as getting "stuck" (becoming caught in a loop and dwelling on a single thought which is usually negative). Although that condition is usually associated with other substances. Don't let it phase you though...sometimes you can feel down, and when you smoke it just makes it worse. Just put it behind you: if you dwell on it, the chances are it will surface again.

Try and assure yourself that it's all in your head. The weed probably sent your mind into overdrive, and you did too much negative thinking. If it comes up again, try listening to music or watch TV, or something to get your mind off it.

I am up with Eejay. In every lie there is a kernel of truth. You will not continue to have this happen forever, because eventually your mind will work its way around it. If anything, atleast to the point of "Bugger, I don't care, I could be doing heroin".

It is important to remember the two most important things in determining what kind of high you have are Set and Setting, or the people you are with and the enviroment that you are in. Any time one of these two things change the spirit of the high changes. Therefore, if you are having a bad high, simply change one of these two things to something more pleasurable. Call up a friend, or listen to some good music, play a computer game or anything to get your mind over the pointless thought process.

If at any time you feel that weed is effecting your mental health, then you need to lay off it for a while, there may be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed, such as your personal feelings about your useage, before you continue.

Marijuana is a mild psychedelic and that means it has a speeding up affect on your thinking. Lord Icer put it well when he said that you can get stuck in a thought. It can be a positive thought or a negative thought. That is on cause of bad trips, usually on other sunstances, but can happen with weed. Greenman is right when he said that set and setting are the most important thing to take into account. But what you have going on is more the fear that it will happen again. You start worrying and before you know it, you're stuck in another negative thought pattern. What you have to do is to get your mind off it. Maybe you could do some more research (while sober) to confirm that all the propaganda is in fact propaganda. If you start to go down that same road again, just blow it off as youre high and a little paranoid. Put on some good music, something that gets you in a good mood. The Beatles are good happy music, just stay away from Revolution 9. Part of having a good high is being able to realize that you're high and you might think some weird things. You just gotta blow some things off every now and then.

I never like hearing about bad highs. But the reality is they happen. The best thing to do is preoccupy yourself. When someone smokes weed they can concentrate very well on a single topic. If nothing is going on around you or your not doing something, your mind will focus on stuff that is in your head. When it does that sometimes it focuses on something that you didn't want it too, like say the effects weed has on you, what people think of you etc... The best thing to do in this situation I have found is to try either to convince yourself (at least for the time being) that whatever it is your thinking is wrong and that it can't be right. Your feel a little better normally. The other thing, I think also more effective thing you can do is focus on something else. Whether it be a Video Game, Music, A conversation, or whatever. That will get your mind off of your thoughts and hopefully make your high more enjoyable.
Anyway good luck with whatever your doing, and if worst comes to worst, you can always lay off weed for a while.
Whatever you do it make sure it is right for you. What is right for you is not always right for someone else.

I strongly disagree when some of you say something like "just try to get your mind off it" because sometimes that's just not possible. For me, sometimes negative thoughts of the same nature find a way to work themselves into ANY situation : tv, talking, staring at the couch, playing games, etc etc. And I don't really have a really good way to get out of it, but usually if i find something that really brings joy to me(a tv show i like, songs etc) it can get my mind out of the nasty downward spiral. Life should be about happiness so why not surround yourself with things that make you happy.

Hmm... its happened to me alot, its always about how f****** up my life and **** is. Like how messed up my family is. That propaganda stuff sounds a bit harder to take though. Hell, just tell yourself, no man theyve had pharmasudical companys test this s*** out and Merk aint gonna f*** up that bad. Its all cool.

I'm glad to hear I'm only the only one this has happened to (although I obviously don't wish it upon anybody).

I think I'm going to lay off the solo stuff for a while and stick with friends, at least for a month or two.

umm...i dont know if this would work, but for memorizing things it works the best. write what u want to memorize like 10 times. it has to be the same..no mistakes or anything.

just write:

this (and then whats on your mind) is NOT true
this (and then whats on your mind) is NOT true
this (and then whats on your mind) is NOT true

etc....

that way, youll always remember when u start thinking about it that it isnt true and then u will be calm. remeber i said that it might not work, but its worth a shot isnt it...itll only kill 1 tree.
