| It just seems like everyone I ask about the hazards/dangers of MJ who smoke have the same reassuring words to say: "Don't worry about it, it's COMPLETELY safe." Of course if I go on, persay, a DARE forum, I'm sure everyone would scold me to hell. Case in point, I was just in the shroomery boards inquiring about psychedelic (hallucinagens) drugs, and naturally they told me that everything I've heard, that LSD f's you up and stays in your body and E is even worse, is BS, and that shrooms, LSD, and E ALL are completely safe (no health hazards) when used in moderation. Now, come on, this MUST be a bit of a stretch! Obviously one who does something bad would not like to admit it is a bad habit, and with the lack of proper research to date, this makes everything all the more confusing. I guess this makes my decision even harder. You see, I've smoked maybe 5-7 times... just weed. I don't touch cigarettes and hardly ever drink. Of course I wanna have fun, but I want to stay healthy and don't want to f up my body so later down the line I will not be able to enjoy life anymore. Right now I can honestly say I have a gung-hoe spirit about weed b/c of my previous experiences, but I'm at a point where I need to stop and make a decision. That is, if I want to go forward and keep doing this, or stop something I might later regret. I'm about to drop 100 something dollars on a vaporizer (to eliminate potential hazards caused from the smoke), and I know once I do that, there's no turning back for me... it WILL become a regular thing (hopefully no more than a twice a week habit). Now maybe I'm asking the wrong people... obviously those who smoke will encourage others, but I still can use some of your advice. You see, I don't completely buy that marijuana is completely safe for you. I mean, how do you explain dead-heads and burn-outs? These are people who had potential to be good people and do good things. I know people who literally smoked themselves stupid and people who lose all motivation on life... This is not the kind of person I want to be... am I doing the right thing? |

| First off, welcome to marijuana.com! I won't go through and edit your post, but for future reference, please refrain from mentioning any drugs other than marijuana. Nothing out there is completely safe my friend, but smoking a joint or 2 a few times a week isn't gonna kill ya. The vaporizer will make it even better. Marijuana does change your perspective, all experiences do. It may be for the better or for the worst, but you'll never find out until ya try it. Not saying everything is meant to be tried, but you're doing an excellent job looking up the information. I know many deadheads who are good people and who do great thing. In fact, all of the deadheads I know are good people. The best people actually. Some people simply have no motivation in life. Some of those people smoke a lot of marijuana. Often, they use marijuana as an excuse. I know many very responsible people with jobs and wives and children and mortgages and car payments and all that who smoke a lot of pot. It's very possible to get things done, you just have to do them.

| ...i smoke daily and all day on special occassions or a day off from work (weekends). i do not smoke all day everyday like some people i know do. i do, however, have a full-time M-F 8-5 job and continue to push myself and set goals everyday. but dont judge a person purely by their *success*...as we have shown (at least in the usa) that we measure a persons worth by their material possessions. i suggest studying an eastern religion such as Buddhism. sorry to get on a soapbox tangent their, ive had lots running around in my mind that ive been wanting to write down, so i guess im writing something like that now. gods im high...hopefully some of that made sense.heheh

| Well actually, Marijuana.com has a lot of the information your looking for... http://my.marijuana.com/myths.php3 you can go there to read a study in 1995 about marijuana myths. Theres a lot of good info right there watiing to be read. Also, I suggest going to a site like dare or the fbi or crimestoppers or whatever and do a side by side comparision of points. I think you'll begin to see, like a lot of us, that most of their claims are absurd... Obviously, when you SMOKE something - its not going to be a healthy thing to do. However, some agencies want you to believe that smoking herb is comparible to doing other HARD drugs. Which it is not whatsoever. Also, a little additive for my post - I once wanted to use a vaporizer, for the health reasons. When I tryed it out, it made my weed taste so bad that I didn't even want to smoke pot. I decided that since pot has such a low risk - I would not smoke the vaporizer. Just something for ya to ponder before ya spend $100. Hehehe Hope this helped, even a little bit.

| Hello and welcome to the Marijuana.com boards... Just to repeat Bailey's message...we do not allow the discussion of other drugs on this board but for purposes of this thread we will let it slide this time as you are new and mention them in context of asking your question... Is marijuana harmful? That depends on what you consider harmful. Marijuana has been around since plants have been growing on the planet, and have been used by homosapiens for the purpose of mind expansion, relaxation and a variety of medicinal reasons since pre-history. During all recorded time , there are no recorded cases of marijuana, by itself, leading to a fatality due to overdose. Compare this with the odd number of aspirin fatalities reported each year. Marijuana use does change your perspective and will cause dizziness, whooziness and gernerally a doped up or stoney feeling as a side effect of use. In fact, it is this side effect of use that is the reason most people imbibe marijuana. With these effects it would be reasonable to refrain from driving or operating machinery when using marijuana. Smoking marijuana is an irritant tot he throat, sinuses and lungs, as is inhaling any heated dry air containing miniscule particulate matter. Some folks find that smoking through a water pipe or bong or hookah cools and humidifies the smoke and removes some particulate matter. Thankfully due to the presence of the internet, a lot of information about marijuana, is available. You have been directed to some of the best info on the web. I would also suggest reading the National Institutes of Health report on marijuana from (i believe) 1999. Recent work in the fields of stroke prevention and treatment have found that THC in marijuana is a powerful anti oxidant and prevents brain injury in stroke and brain injury patients. Recent work in the field of arthritis indicates that other cannabinoids (chemicals found in marijuana) can treat intractable arthritis and specifically rheumatoid arthritis. Other work is showing promise in the field of parkinsons disease. The information is out there...hope we were able to help. ~ have a cookie ![]() Mama Budz | |

| Well hmm, I had myself a nice spiel before I read Mama's post, which reduced my great speech down to a "Uh, What she said" ![]() And to post a link to the IOM report. This report was commissioned by the Clinton Administration and the then drug czar Barry McCaffery. So its the governments own findings. Peace

| I've been doing reading, and although many may make claims that it is 'dangerous' for your health without proof or evidence, at the same time, no one has yet to proove it's relative safeness. I'm not concerned about the side-effects such as "dizziness, whooziness and gernerally a doped up or stoney feeling," I just want to know if it is potentially hazardous to my health. Does MJ contain carcinogens? Has it been SHOWN to promote cancer? Can it cause brain damage? |
