Question

Hi all-
Could someone please explain to me how a person gets a legal status to smoke?
What kind of illness makes you a candidate, is it legal in every state? (Ohio?)....
And where are the doctors who can do this?

Thanks!
Maggie

Which illnesses? the serious ones, though THC can serve many more illnesses than cancer, aids, and glaucoma.

How do you get it? ..through a doctor's prescription.

Who can prescribe it? a MD that isn't an idiot about THC.

Is medicinal MJ legal everywhere? ...no ...in Ohio ... don't know.

Does society need a dose of reality (I threw this question in here)? ...indubitably!

Since I work as a nurse in PA & OH and have never seen a script for MJ use I'm guessing it's not legal... but if anyone knows for sure please let me know.

Wonder if depressions counts as a legit illness.... cause I sure am depressed about having to give up one of my favorite activities for an upcoming drug test!!!

In the states where it is legal I wonder if a docs script is enough or if a bunch of politics and paperwork is involved..... wonder how the HMO's feel about it.

It is definately not legal in Ohio. Each state must pass a proposition to be able to have doctors "approve or recommend" the use of medical cannabis. Pot is still schedule 1, so you can not write a perscription for it. Most of the western states have med. mary laws. (cali, oregon, wash, arizona, colorado) There are 13 states total that you can get this in, but I can't remember the whole list off the top of my head. The way it works here in cali, is that if your regular doctor won't talk with you about it, you can see a "medical cannabis specialist" For a regular doctor visit fee, they review your medical records and approve it for you. You can get it for MANY different reasons. Chronic pain is #1.

Thanks Shaman for the info. So in the Cali yellow pages is there a section "cannabis medical specialist"? And given "pain" is really very subjective I wonder if it is fairly easy to get these recomendations?

I might move

No, all the doctors are pretty underground still. They have just recently started advertizing in local "left" newspapers.
Yes, it can be quite easy to get, as it should be. Since you are female (i assume, cause your name is maggie) I would recommend complaining of menstral pain.

Howdy Friends!!

The medical marijuana issue is being presented to the supreme court. They will have a decision by June (end of). One of the sticking points is this:

In 9 states laws are in the books that grant the responsible and monitored use of marijuana legal.

However, it is still very illegal according to the Federal Government, which has farther reaching arms than the state. If pressed on a federal level, the person's state's rights go out the window.

There is strong opposition, though. Many factors come into play. Money above all. From pharmaseudical companies to prohabitionist groups to DARE to the people getting paid through the War on Drugs is in full-blown support of keeping marijuana illegal, if not with stricter penalties.

I believe that some type of decision will be made to clarify this issue and many others. Have faith, we will be set free.

Bravo! Maybe, just maybe, the legal system will one day be limited to laws that ACTUALLY make sense. I've been keeping an eye on that issue. Thanks for the update, HillBilly.

Default 1 last note

BTW, one note. In states where medicinal MJ is legal, the feds still arrest the patients, but the staes won't prosecute. We are getting an edge up over here!
