| hello folks, nice to find this forum. i am a 40 year old female para, i smoke weed to battle spasms and pain and help my appetite. i think it is the best drug and has been the most effective for me with the least side effects. i started about five years ago, smoking about 1/2 ounce per month... now i smoke an ounce per month. it is moderately potent. will my tolerance just go up and up? if i use mj for medical reasons like this, what does it take for me to get stoned for recreation? i do not drink alcohol or take other drugs. if i quit smoking weed for a while, would my tolerance go back down again? i can't financially afford it - any suggestions for cutting back? sometimes it works for me to smoke early morning to get my body loosened up and then late night for spasms and back pain. is it bad to smoke daily? please any shared experiences or advice would be great. liz |

| Glad you found our neck of the woods, and what a lush green forest it is . Tolerance is one of the few drawbacks of smoking, eventually it takes more and more to get the same effect. Cutting back on your intake will help to lower your tolerance. Theres no problem with smoking daily, but the more often you do it, the more your tolerance will go up.

| lizwink, Personally, I do not like smoking every day (save when I'm in NL =) I like to take short breaks so that the next time I smoke I will be able to fully feel the effects. The reason I do this is probably that if I smoke day after day I notice that the high lasts for a smaller duration. So from this, I can say that tolerance does go up slightly if you smoke every single day. Since you have a medical condition, there is probably no way around smoking every day. (so it's not really *bad* to smoke every day unless you look at this point, and maybe the point that smoking every day after a while I notice tends to "slow you down" a bit, which is another incentive to take a break, to bring back down your tolerance) Anyone else? Am I wrong? Robin, am I wrong? =) Hope this helps a bit! (a suggestion for cutting back...perhaps roll with tobacco, although that introduces a whole new set of problems, it will save you weed and thus prevent you from buying as often...although since you smoke every day...an addiction can occur (which I can personally vouch for in rolling with tobacco and smoking often)...it's up to you to make the decision here =) | |

| Allow me to intoduce myself, I'm Richard, Panama to my friends and enemies alike. ![]() I'm a quad (I just turned 40 in February) and I use marijuana both medicinally and recreationally. I smoke about half an ounce a week because when I smoke I like to feel that familiar tingle and my tolerance has gone up as a result. You can get your tolerance back down by laying off for a week or so, but if you're using marijuana to control spasms and pain I'd suggest having some baclofen and valium to fall back on. It sounds like you've got the routine down pretty pat. I smoke a bowl or a doob first thing in the morning and that usually staves off my spasms until around noon at which time I'll do a couple one hitters and each lunch and a couple more afterwards if necessary. I'm usually all set then until the evening when my back really starts to cat up and I'll keep a bowl going most of the night. Sometimes my spasms will kick in during the night while I'm sleeping and wake me up, when that happens I just do a one hitter and try to get back to sleep. Smoking anything is bad for your lungs, so you may want to get a vaporizer or try cooking marijauna into your food. Check the Recipes forum for some suggestions in that area. ![]() Pan |

| my god it's so nice to find such a supportive group of people who understand the issues!! there is wisdom in all you say. i recognize in myself that i am treating weed a bit like tobacco (i quit smoking several years ago and miss it like hell sometimes), and that it takes the same strategies to deal with addiction - exercise, other good distractions, rest... i live in ontario, canada and we are still snowed in at least in my small town.... when the snow melts no doubt weed use will go down as i can get out and about. how many days of a 'break' are useful? any advice on that? panama, you mentioned a week? that is a very good idea. you are very realistic and sensible - how many years have you been smoking? I was injured at 18 and am now 40. weed is the best drug i have found. valium is sooooooooooooooooo depressing. yes, weed is THE BEST drug for spasm and related pain, but it is also ok to have some other meds handy for those weed breaks i guess...... i would like to protect my lungs and will look into the 'baking' forums... it's something to think about, also a good idea again if it's the actual activity of 'smoking' that is making me smoke more........ thanks new friends ![]() liz from ontario |

| Liz, I've been smoking marijuana since the age of 10, but only using it medically for the last 20 years. I was in an accident in 1981 (Click Here to learn more.) that left me paralyzed. I understand your situation in Canada because I'm just to the south in Maine and we've had a heluva winter too. Marijuana does offer the best relief from spasms and pain and as much as I hate the lagged out feeling valium leaves me with occasionally it is a necessary evil. Also, while eating marijuana in food is invariantly healthier for you, you can still develop a tolerance. But as with smoking it's just the lovable buzz that will succumb to the tolerance, the spasms and pain will still be treated with about the same amount of weed. Pan |

| welcome to the group! ![]() I have to agree with the week break every other month or so. For me an ounce lasts 2 months, so I don't use the same dose, but the week break every 4-8 weeks has kept me a "lightweight" for years. |

| it took me three days to figure out what 'when i am in NL ' meant .. now i got it...... my husband is dutch (a total non smoker, also able bodied) and we have travelled there once, what a great attitude toward dopethe country and the people have!! also realistic compassion for those with disabilities and conditions beyond their control. i am going for bladder surg soon and will be in hosp for ten days or so, that should be a major break from smoking and then i will certainly keep in mind that it is good to take a break (a few days, a week) now and then. i miss getting high for sure ![]() |

| Yes good ole NL sure does have a good attitude towards it. You smoke? Ok. You don't? Ok. That's the impression I got from being there for a couple years. Oh, your last name is surely Dutch, yes! =) | |
