Default possible to die from smoking?

Six dead after smoking hash (Dagsavisen)
The myth that smoking hash does not pose a health hazard has been exploded. The National Institute of Forensic Toxicology has revealed that in the course of the last six years, six Norwegians have died as a direct result of smoking hash. "We have made an astonishing discovery," said Jørg Mørland, who heads the Institute. "It is widely known that smoking hash makes the heart work harder, and raises the individual’s blood pressure. But that someone has died as a direct result of smoking has is completely new to us. And these findings have also been greeted by surprise in the international community," said Mr Mørland. "Post-mortems show that the six people concerned did not have any other substances in their bodies than THC, which is the active substance in cannabis. The individuals did not even have particularly high concentrations of THC in their bodies when they died. Nor are there indications that the individuals were more predisposed to cardio-vascular diseases than normal. These findings are also surprising.

ADR531, I have also had a bad experience with hash one time...I think it could have been simply from being so high only a year and a half or so into smoking and this was probably the highest I had ever been up to that point. I'd been high, but not that high, damn!
http://cheaptalk.marijuana.com/420/s...&threadid=6267

hmmm...scary thought though. I smoked a ton of hash back in the day.

Peace!

This is pretty interesting. I hope it isn't true.

However, you have to wonder why all were in Norway.
Maybe there was some bad hash or something, otherwise you probably would have heard of deaths like these other places??

I dunno, just a thought

Default Consider the Source

The Norwegian Ministry of Health and Social Affairs was broken up into the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Affairs, so finding a reference as to their stance on marijuana is not going to be easy, but I will try. What I have found is that although the Norwegian people seem to favor decriminalization/legalization the government is opposed. As you can see from the quote below taken from the National Institute of Forensic Toxicology website main page you can see they're a government funded entity.
Quote:
From the The National Institute of Forensic Toxicology website:

The National Institute of Forensic Toxicology (NIFT) is a national, State authorized laboratory for forensic toxicological work in Norway. NIFT is staffed with approximately 100 people, of whom two also hold positions as Professors at the University of Oslo. From 1996 the Institute is accredited by Norwegian Accreditation as testing laboratory according to the requirements of NS-EN 45001 and ISO/IEC Guide 25.

Objective:

The analysis of samples with respect to alcohol, drugs (medicinal and illegal) and poisons in biological fluids on request from the police, criminal investigators, forensic pathologists, and occupational, social and child welfare services. The analytical results are usually interpreted and commented. SRI submits expert statements concerning forensic toxicology to the courts. Methodological and other relevant research is done.

Present research:

Biomedical research on alcohol and drugs of abuse. Development of methods for the analysis of alcohol, drugs and poisons. Projects on epidemiological research with respect to alcohol and drugs of abuse.

Sources of funds:

Ministry of Health and Social Affairs

Income from requesting parties for certain services
I find this interesting. It is a reponse written when the article first appeared on the MAPS site:
Quote:
This is a very limited report.

Circumstances surrounding the death of these six people are important but neglected. Their reactivity to common adverse reactions to THC such as panic attacks is not covered. How people cope with adverse reactions can contribute to their outcome.

Also, their general physical condition, among many other possible explanations, could have contributed. For example, the possibility of a lung condition aggravated by smoke inhalation is not mentioned.

Finally, whenever I see the word "proof", a huge question mark lights up between me and the statement made. I have seen actual proof of very little in this world. As soon as something is shown to be true, alternate explanations arise. I think Darwin might have had some things to say here. Diversity is the key to evolution, not proof of some absolute truth.

I'd be curious for more information on deaths directly connected with use ofhash.

They didn't say natural cannabis, this is hash. I think hash has impuritys, and thats what may have killed these people. This is just my opinion though.

That's a good point.

From what we currently know you can't really OD from it... so i wonder what happened... maybe our current research is wrong? seems unlikely tho..
