| Alright, I've been smoking for the past 8 months already, so I'm not going to say that I've only ever used Marijuana in the "medicinal" sense. But... on March 29th, I was involved in a bit of a car crash. And when I say a bit.. I mean, we were making a left turn with a protected arrow, and a truck (with a driver with a .10 blood-alcohol reading) goes flying through the red light at 100+ mph straight into us. Of course with my luck.. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt in the back of the Blazer we were in, and was ejected out the left window.. I flew a little bit and ended up landing face first onto the concrete. Lost 11 teeth, scarred my entire face, some areas worse then others.. twisted my right leg to the point of breakings in several areas, scarred my entire right hand and arm and scars on the legs too. But the worst part of it all was the (now known to have been temporary) traumatic brain injury. Apparently.. when I hit the concrete, my brain slammed against the front part of my skull pretty hard.. and it kinda broke some stuff in there or something.. hehe. For about a month after the accident, I wasn't myself at all. I was just plain... crazy. Coming back into the world after 1.5 weeks of unconsciousness in the Intensive Care Unit was just too much... it was sooooooo weird, and that's putting it lightly. Anyways.. 6 weeks in the hospital, and when I got out.. Everything was just rough. I didn't feel right... everything in life coming back at me so quickly... people were all really nice, but some expected me to say or do things and it was just all so overwhelming... but when I smoked for the first time since the accident, everything changed to good. I felt great about life... and so relaxed and content. I think it's really done wonders for me... Now of course medicinal use where I live (Texas) isn't legal.. but I'm wondering, would this be classified as perhaps medicinal or pyschological use of marijuana? Because as I said at first.. I smoked long before the accident and all.. So I'm just not sure, am I classified as a medicinal smoker? |

| You could be, provided your ailments dont just pass like a cold or flu. Generally, medicinal users have a non-curable disease, but I suppose if a bit of this brain injury stayed with you for the rest of your life, you could be classified as one. If you live in California, I'm sure you could get a doctor's recommendation for medicinal marijuana and pick it up at one of those pot clubs they have.... be quick though, the DEA's raiding them left and right. Sorry to hear about this unfortunate accident. Did anyone die?

| Nah.. we're some rough dudes. There were three of us in the car, and both the guys up front had their seat belts on and all. So I was by far the worst injured.. and it's all good now, so no problems. |

| Merlin, My condolences on your unfortunate tragedy. I can confidantly say that it never would have happened had that driver been stoned instead of drunk. As Bill Hicks once pointed out, it's hard to get hurt in a crash when you're only going 5 MPH... Anyways, have you talked to a psychiatrist re: your brain trauma? Many medical marijuana patients use before they are documented as medical patients. It has so many uses that people use it for one thing and then find out it's also good at easing pain, increasing appetite... etc... I'm sorry you live in a state with draconian drug laws that put medical patients into the hands of politicians and LEO's. Does Texas have an Initiative system (where normal citizens can enact laws instead of lawmakers?) If you do, campaign. Do what we and 8 other states have done and get medical marijuana on your ballot! So to answer your question: "am I classified as a medicinal smoker?" You seem to feel you get significant medical benefit from the good herb. Who's to tell you otherwise?

| Well.. I was always scared to bring it up with my therapists.. because while I am 18, I still live with my parents (and for another year at least).. and while they have been more open to the possibilty of Marijuana since the accident.. they still don't want me doing it, so I can't exactly be open about it. |

| I'm not too familiar with doctor/patient confidentiality issues there, but I'm pretty sure that he could not tell your parents if you are a legal adult. |

| But seeing a therapist is completely confidential - unless you killed someone or were sleeping with the therapist's wife, he shouldnt make a scene ![]() |

| Or mental-juana? I think that you answered your own question there,Merlin.Look at what you said about how you felt mentally and spiritually from that first joint after you got out of the hospital. You said you felt great and were peaceful, all great benefits of the herb that perhaps you weren't aware of before that now are a really nice side effect of the herb that you are really grateful for, huh? That's perhaps the best effect that I achieve from smoking herb, that overwhelming sense of well being.I just feel like that whatever the problem,I can feel better about it if I just stop worrying and let the path of my life take it's course. I wasn't really sold on the herb for anything else than getting high before I was in a really bad car wreck, similiar to your experience,Merlin. Then when I got out of the hospital,I was able to smoke that first joint, and all those feelings of terror and anxiety about the future were relieved by the simple little plant that we call marijuana. The problems that I had did not go away, but I felt that I could handle them, and I am sure that it led to my full mental recovery as well. It's a great drug for pain both medical and mental.I'm thankful that I have it.... Thank's for the reminder, dude! ![]()
