First of all, I really want to that those of you who answered my previous questions....you people have some good information....I tried to do a search about the toxicity of pipe screens you find at a head shop....but nothing turned up. Does anyone know anything about screens and what they are made of? Are they bad for you?

pipe screens from head shops are (mostly) steel. they are not harmfull (that i know of)

Cool...thanks for the input...I was worried they might be made out of brass or aluminum. I've noticed that the local head shop by me actually sells brass pipes..so I guess one can't be sure everything they carry is safe.

I have a glass screen that I use in my pipes when possible. It's shaped pretty much like a Mercedes logo without the ring around it. Be they toxic or not, I could always taste a hint of the metal screens. Plus I never have to buy new ones

That's what I thought at first, I just asked in passing what these weird little glass stars were that were sitting in a bowl. Picked one up since they were only about 5 bucks.
They actually work quite well, probably not as well as a real screen does. However, they do get the job done, and don't color the flavor.

You want to get brass screens whenever possible. Some metal screens put off vapors that may be harmful.

what if u used a torch lighter and got the screen red hot for a few seconds until it stops smoking then use it, if there was ne coating that was harmful either gets burned off or u didnt get it hot enough. . . . . does this make ne sense? its what i allways do

While that would probably burn off anything the metal had been coated with, it can't change the vact that the screen in question is metal, which oxidizes/changes with direct contact with high heat - which at its best still changes the taste of the bud, and at worst might be bad for you.

If you don't break up your bud too fine, it isn't necessary to put a screen in a glass pipe anyway. [Glass is the way to go for best taste]
