| I was just wondering, have there been any studies done on brain activity comparing neural activity between someone's brain when its stoned vs not stoned? I wonder if THC or one of its cousin chemicals in Marijuana activates different parts of the brain that arent normally used in day-to-day activity. This might be a very helpful phenomenon in the treatment of many different brain dysfunctions caused by Tumors, Brain Damage, Foreign Objects (such as a bullet), etc etc... If not, Does anyone know how to suggest such studies to organizations who might be capable of it? Any info would be greatly appreciated! | |

| Marijuana, specifically delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, binds to specific cannabinoid receptors, thus activating them. Because of the binding which occurs, the number of receptors is subsequently reduced. This activating effect plays a role in the "trip"- and scattered-thought-causing effect of marijuana. The reduction effect plays an important role in the aftereffects of getting high, as well as the medicinal roles. Neurotransmitter activity is altered. The synthesis of some neurotransmitters may be inhibited. In addition, the down-regulation of receptors means, as well as health benefits for some individuals, that the body's natural or endogenous cannabinoid chemical anandamide is inhibited from binding and carrying out an effect. This is at least one reason the mind is unable to think properly after heavy use. | |
