Question

hey fellow smokers!,
I have this friend who said to me the other night that she has been really depressed lately and been crying herself to sleep most nights, which of course i was very concerned about and tried to be very supportive. She also said that she wants to try weed, im not sure if she meant to directly try to stop her depression or just to try somthing new to cheer her up. Whatever it is, it came as a great shock to me because in the past she has made it very public that she hates the stuff and thinks its crap or whatever, all of a suddan she has come to me so she can smoke up. She also doesnt want me to tell anyone (we are part of a close group of friends) that she wants to, i made a promise.
Ive heard of people using for depression in the past but does it work? Also id really like to toke with her cos i dont know many chicks who smoke.
Thanks for listening and please offer me any advice that you have!

I think it depends, when I am sad sometimes I smoke, and it makes me happy and feel very confident. I am not sure how it effects other people, but I would wait for some more responses.


P.S. - People shouldn't be depressed, that means they are only looking at the bad part of their life. Tell her to look on the good sides of her life, and to enjoy it while she is on this earth. I mean she has friends, she should be VERY happy because of that.

Well, if your friend has trusted you to help her with her depression... she's taken the first step to recovery.

My advice would be to sit down and talk with her for awhile. Ask her questions like, "Why do you think smoking up will help?", explain to her a few basics about weed (how to inhale, etc..) and most of all assure her it won't hurt her.

Then, after all that... pack a small bowl. If she's still up to trying it, smoke it with her.

Depression may be a sympton of low seritonin and or other chemicals in the brain that "make you happy". Sometimes in this case it is difficult to look at the good sides, can you dig it?

i do this all the time with my friends if i or one of them are depressed we roll a couple of joints and smoke relax and talk about our problems and come up with ways to over come them its very relaxing and is very healing sometimes we crysometimes we luagh but thats what friends are for but to sit dow nand have a long talk with some one doesnt mean you have to smoke weed to talk about things just tell her to open up dont hold anything back and grin and bare it it may be a struggle for both of you to find the problem but once you over come that problem or problems you will both be happy you did that hope this helped i am gonna go toke my bong later

I think i will talk to her about it before we do smoke, and maybe if she agrees that she still wants to try it then she might even open up more and be able to work out what it is that is really making her depressed/upset. I personally think it will help her character to yknow, get her to chill out a bit more in some situations? I think weed can help you think differently once youve tried it and you can become a more placid person. Hopfully she can have a good laugh with weed and forget her troubles, but i have to be there for her as well.

I disagree. I don't think someone who is depressed should be using marijuana. Firstly, marijuana tends to make people more sensitive and amplify thoughts or feelings, so it could make her feel worse. I smoked up once when I was in a bad mood and it was absolutely horrible. Second, people who are depressed have a higher likelyhood for forming habits. You don't want this girl to get in too deep and smoking up all the time. Her problems will only get worse.

Just my opinion.

well .. i know when i used to be depressed id smoke everyday and oh my god it really really didnt help .. and i would feel so much better when i wasnt smoking but i couldnt help but light up EVERYDAY .. now dont get me wrong lighting up every day isnt a bad thing but when you're depressed it is .. especially for me it was .. i was truly truly depended on weed .. since then i have learned to control my feelings more and ive grown up alot i think and im no longer depressed for the most part .. of course we will all sit and listen to music and cry a little now and then but we're just human .. i still smoke daily when i get it .. but no longer let it control my life .. if you're depressed and you smoke .. you will become dependent .. and yes at first itll be like ohh sweet life is soooooo sweet im hiighhh!!!!!! but then ull end up smokin to get away from ur problems .. then after not to long ull realize ur problems get worse .. so i think its ok for ur friend to smoke .. but i know that (at least for me) after i first tried it i was hooked (not like addicted but mmmm was it good .. still is .. better now though ) but she can try it just dont let her abuse it like i did
