I think that there is a helpful and harmful dosage of marijuana. I have really weird health problems that doctors so far haven't even begun to understand.
When I smoked a small amount of marijuana it seemed to have amazingly beneficial effects and made me feel way better for a short time. When I smoked it to excess (many joints every day) it made me feel maybe a little better, but very burnt out (of course). Then when I quit smoking after this period of very heavy use I became _very_ sick.
The point I'm trying to make is that like all medication, marijuana can be overused and overdose can occur, although not a fatal overdose. It should be used as a temporary measure to alleviate pain, suffering, fever, etc., similar to how acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Aspirin are used. Or in some cases, as necessary, for a period of time on a specific dosage.
Marijuana should not be considered the cure, only a temporary treatment. Determination and treatment of the underlying cause of illness should still be a high priority. Marijuana undoubtably has a potential for abuse and a potential to lead to other problems.
