Question Effects of cannabis on adolescents?

Is there any respectable study saying that cannabis doesn't do more harm to adolescents than it does to adults, or something like that? My mom believes that cannabis is okay for adults, but bad for people with growing brains. Any link that will prove her wrong? (Or right... I'd still be interested.)

Thanks.

edit: I'm 16, by the way.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find a conclusive answer either way.

Millions of factors are involved in brain development (your environment, interactions with ppl, physical injury, food, your daily routines, etc.) so it's extremely difficult to isolate what mj is doing to your brain from everything else.

Plus, such research would be considered 'unethical' because of the question it poses "Does mj use harm brain growth in young adults" (since the answer could be 'yes' scientists could be harming their test candidates).

I can tell you that if mj does change your brain permanently it's not noticeable enough to have been reported during its long history (2000+ years).

I read some page about that a while ago, they did studies on it but I don't think anything was really proved 100%. It makes sense kinda, but I think it's more for an age range 10 - 15. Also the mind does the most growing at a very young age, before you could hold a bong. But who knows..

I can't quote a source, but I remember hearing somewhere that weed does cause issues in developing brains, which the study pegged as people under 17.

Although I started at 16, too, and I really don't have any brain damage...far from it, in fact

JoeTaco, when your mom says adults, does she mean people who are at least 18, or 21, or maybe even an older age?

I don't know but I'm pretty sure it stunts your growth if your a kid. This one dude at my school is real short when he should be tall, and he thinks it';s because he smoked way to much weed. The dudes freaking ripped though. He has all the muscles a taller person should have, but on a stunted body.

Marijuana does not stunt your growth.

I don't understand what you mean by "he should be tall" and "He has all the muscles a taller person should have, but on a stunted body".

How do you deduce this?

I read somewhere (and several times on these boards) that the dreaded "amotivational syndrome" supposedly caused by pot is only seen in adolescent smokers and that once your body has stopped developing, so has the amotivational effect. I don't know if it's true or not, just something I have heard from various places and people, and even if it is true, it's only true in the physiological sense, which can only go so far, since there are many adults that are naturally lazy and happen to smoke pot and there are many adolescents that are naturally over-motivated and happen to smoke pot
