| Well I posted a while ago because I thought that I got laced weed, but a bunch of people yelled at me for it because it was obvious I had a panic attack because my tolerance was low from inexperience. Well now I have a question that is a little bit more serious than that. well as I said, I smoked a lot of weed really fast, followed by a massive panic attack because obviously i'm a lightweight and can't handle massive amounts in a short time. Those of you who have had a panic attack know that they're not fun at all. Thousands of emotions running through your head and your tingly and numb for 48 hours. Now about two weeks ago, my friend got a hold of some purple haze, and I thought I would try it out, and see how it goes, and just take it slow. So I took three hits, pretty slow, and boom, another panic attack. And I thought afterwards, alright, it was strong stuff, the rolling paper was shitty and burned fast, I just need to eat more, and take it even slower. So just tonight, I didn't want to smoke because a school night is not a good time to have a panic attack, so I let my friends smoke, and I would just be there. So my friend takes a huge first hit, and there was smoke just lingering there, and I just watched this cloud of smoke. I figured it wouldn't do much harm to second hand smoke...not much THC no harm, I won't get stoned or anything. I put my head in the cloud and inhale a tiny bit, and backed away immediately when I smelled it. My heart was racing as fast as it ever has, and I knew I could have another panic attack. I fought it off just thinking to myself "I didn't inhale much I'll be fine" over and over and over. So basically it's coming to the point where I'm becoming a nuisance every time I smoke with my friends I enjoyed it, but people telling me now that I should just simply not do it anymore I read up on panic attacks and learned that the number one cause of panic attacks if fear of having another one, and I think whenever I smell marijuana is just brings back the memory of the first one and freaks me out. After that I thought that it might be worth a try to eat some, and since it takes an hour to kick in it's enough time to take my mind off it and think of something else. What do you think? |

| If you`re intent on continuing to use cannabis, don`t eat it. For most it`s infinitely more intense. I`d recommend buying a small 'one hitter' and smoking tiny bowls. The average bowl contains a huge amount of THC for most people without any tolerance to it; especially if you`re buying good weed. Also, try some meditative techniques and concentrate on your breathing. You need to feel comfortable in this altered mind state. If you get high and then wish you hadn`t it`s going to lead into a world a world of paranoia. As an aside, I believe younger people can have problems with cannabis because they`re often less capable of stepping outside of their comfort zone. Taking hallucinogens - including cannabis - is definitely 'stepping outside of your comfort zone'.

| Yeah, do what Hashishi said and get yourself a one hitter and smoke a smaller bowl. If you are getting panic attacks from 3 hits then you need to take it down a notch. Plus, like you said, a cause of panic attacks is thinking and knowing you're going to have one when you light up. So you are already psyching yourself up for one. Maybe, along with meditating and such, find something to occupy your time. Work on controlling your reaction but also make sure you have something to do so you don't dwell on what's happening. Everyone's tolerance is different and even if it only takes you a little bit to get where you want to go that's ok. Make sure to remind yourself; everything is ok; you are ok, and everything will be just fine ![]()

| I completely healed myself of panic attacks, they were so bad I wasn't going to have anymore weed. Trust me, I had a real panic attack completely sober then I realised these so called weed "panic attacks" are real picnics compared to the real shit. Enjoy the high, get psyched for the high, look forward to it with anticipation and anger like you deserve it and it makes you feel better and happy. Know how good it can be, the feeling of euphoria, don't you want to feel euphoric? WTF are you taking this shit, to HAVE PANIC ATTACKS! Such thoughts... |

Personally, if I was having a problem that occurred only when I was around weed or smoking it, I'd do the easiest thing to eliminate the problem--avoiud marijuana. I understand you want to "fit in" and whatnot, but if its not fun for you, I don't see the point. I know I would not smoke weed if I seemed to have an adverse reaction everytime I smoked it, nor would I do ANY drug that had an adverse affect on me everytime I used it. If you don't enjoy it, theres really no reason for you to keep smoking. If you're doing it just to fit in, and not because you actually enjoy the sensations marijuana brings, you shouldn't be smoking, IMO. Cannabis isn't for everyone....some people just cannot seem to tolerate it, and some people can. My personal opinion is that if you don't enjoy it, don't smoke it. I know I'd never pay someone for the privledge of having a panic attack, and if you buy weed, that seems to be exactly what you are doing.

| You learn to control your high over time... Jesus haven't other people come to the same conclusions as me? Am I the only one on this entire board that got panic attacks every single time he smoked and has completely healed his Anxiety disorder with the help of weed? |

| I have a friend who can't smoke at all because she's had a few terrible experiences smoking, like complete dissociation freak out kind of thing. She can't even put a piece to her mouth without feeling extremely panicked, yes it's all psychological but she just doesn't want to try it anymore and that's fine. |

| Your big panic attack has put you in the position where you are worrying about having a panic attack whenever you smoke. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The fact that you had a panic attack after one lung-full of second-hand smoke indicates to me that the attacks have nothing to do with the pharmacological properties of the weed itself and everything to do with your psychological "set" going into a smoking session. If/when you decide to smoke again, go into it totally relaxed. Do whatever it is you do that makes you feel centered and calm. Be in a safe place, either alone or with people you'd trust with your life. If you're not alone, carry on a conversation. If you're talking on the outside, that limits the attention you can give to running around in circles inside your head. If you're alone, have something to do that absolutely holds your attention: your favorite tunes, a collection of photos, go for a walk, cook a meal, etc. Anything which will get you out of your own head (where all the scary crap is) and out into the world, which is generally non-threatening.
