| I know straight up I have seen on many pro marijuana sites that they claim it does not lower testosterone levels. Maybe not in all individuals but I am positive that CHRONIC use in some males may lead to this problem. I even read in Maxim's ask Dr Maxim section that toking daily can lead to low testosterone and libido levels. Now I have been smoking quite heavily for 3 years and even after a couple months of use I noticed my sex drive had decreased and so did the firmness of my erections. Are these effects from smoking reversible or what? And before anyone asks I exercise regulary, eat properly, get adequate rest etc. |

| I don't know anything about testosterone but if you are a chronic then you should just smoke a doobie before sex. Holy cow will you have a hard erection for quite some time.

And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable what then?" |

| I haven't read any studie or anything on this, but my understanding, from word-of-mouth/street knowledge, was that CHRONIC use, ie: everyday for a number of years, non-stop, could affect your libido & ability to get an erection... But as far as I know a little toking here and there never hurt anyone, and I know when I get stoned, I get horny, and I can keep it up forever... Believe me, if anyone's girlfriends out there don't like 'em smoking up, just have sex with them when you're baked, and you'll never hear another complaint! ![]()

A ...study by Dr. Robert Block at the University of Iowa disputes the commonly held notion that marijuana alters the level of testosterone and other sex hormones. The study contradicted a widely publicized 1974 study by Dr. R.C. Kolodony, which reported decreased testosterone levels in men who smoked marijuana chronically. The U. of Iowa study found that chronic marijuana use had no effect on testosterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, prolactin and cortisol in men or women. Noting that six other studies had failed to show lowered testosterone levels in men, Dr. Block concluded: "It appears that marijuana, even heavy use of the kind that's typical in the United States, doesn't alter testosterone levels." However, he cautioned that heavy use might have other adverse effects, including "possible effects on reproductive function and mild, selective cognitive impairments associated with heavy, chronic use." Block's study is published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence, Vol. 28: 121-8 (1991). Quote:

| First I would like to thank you all for replying. Now secondly I would like to tell you I did see my family doctor I am 19 btw.He did a prostate exam said everything was normal.Theres no lumps or any symptoms of me having testicular cancer except for the lowered sex drive. He said because of my age he didnt know what to recommend me to do.He didnt even refer me to a urologist which I found strange. How would I find a urologist on my own? I was asking here because I didn't know if anyone else has had similar symptoms?See I read so many mixed reports on the net about this issue some said marijuana may temporarily repress the testicular functions.Anyone have any suggestions? |

| ^Good idea. After three years, you still haven't just taken a break and found out for sure? If I was that concerned, it's what I would've done by now. Now I could be wrong, but maybe it's not totally about testosterone levels. Maybe it has to do with motivation or some other mental factor. I think there are plenty more variables to explore before you blame weed. I'm not totally ruling weed out, i'm just saying there's possibly other reasons.

| It could be alot of things! One symptom of Depression is a reduced libido, for example. Maybe talk to your doctor about "differential diagnosis". Ask your doctor to explain to you the possibilities of what could be leading to your symptom. |
