| I have smoked pot for about 6 years, averaging an 8th a week. During the week I smoke only a very small bowl of it at a time, but I still find myself smoking once or twice a day. In addition to wanting to save money, the other major reason I want to cut back is because I am a voracious reader but over the past year or so have found it increasingly harder to retain what I have read, even if I haven’t smoked since the day before. I have no intention of quitting, but I would like to cut back to a point where it doesn’t have a noticable affect on my memory when I am not high. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I should cut back to? |

| I don't really believe it's the marijuana that is doing this to your memory. You said you've been smoking for 6 years, and this has only been happening for a year or so? I think it's just you. You could always stop for a lil while, and see if it improves your memory. Then increase it little by little and see if your memory starts to fade. Only you can know what your limits are

| The myth that marijuana causes short term memory loss isn't 100% true. "Any impairment of short-term memory disappears when one is no longer under the influence of marijuana," says Toronto Hemp Company. Maybe you can't remember the content that you've read is because of your reading habits. For me, if I read with other distractions around (music, tv, whatever) I completely forget what I've just read. Just a thought. :] |

People who smoke marijuana frequently and/or heavily do have ongoing short-term memory problems, but after a month of abstinence they do just as well on memory tests as people who never smoked.

| Thanks guys for the advice. I haven't smoked in about a week and I really do feel a little bit more clear headed. I am 26 so not old enough for age to affect memory. I think it's not the quantity that I smoke but the fact that I do it every day. I'm going to just try and cut back on daily usage. I really do think that pot has some affect on short term memory- not as huge an effect as anti smokers would have you believe, but some. Also I am very short and thin, but I have a really slow metabolism (I'm only thin because I'm a pretty strict organic food/vegetarian gal), so I think that what part of it is is that pot effects me more strongly and for a longer time period than your average smoker. So as another post pointed out, if I smoke every day it may just be that I'm rarely truly sober, even if I think that I am. |

| i am a heavy smoker, i smoke about a half-ounce a week, to myself only occasionally smoking others out. i do my homework while i'm high, i study while i'm high, hell being high is really the only thing that motivates me to DO anything school-related. if i study high, i remember the stuff i need to for the test. in fact, i have a 3.5 gpa. sure if i'm high i'll lose things like my lighter or cigarettes or whatever, but only because i'm not thinking about those things. i lose my keys all the time when i'm sober, if only because my apartment is usually a mess.
