Cannabis, Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

I've heard that there are many hazards of smoking while pregnant, but I do not know what they are. Does anyone else? Thank you.

Understand this first, I do not advocate smoking any carcinogens while pregnant. 14% of pregnant women use marijuana to some extent and because delta 9 hydrocannibinol can cross the placenta, the potentialfor daamage exists. However, very few studies done have found an increased risk of congenital abnormality due to cannibis use while pregnant. Let me know if you want more info.

I think that is is generaly better to err on the side of safety. Smoking anything during pregnancy is a no no. The developing brain is fragile, it is better to give up smoke than give birth to a child with developmental disabilties.

a definate big no any smoke of any sort can harm a fetus especially weed cause i mean weed get yah high but imagine what i would do to the fetus remeber the child is attached to you anything you do it does i think it could be harmful to it so definatly dont smoke while pregnent same goes for alcohol. alcogol is worst than weed but theyre both bad for a fetus cigs are bad so just stay cool while youre pregnent just imagine going through birth knowing that youre baby is going to be healthy then after all that you can sit down toke up imagine how sstoned you will get

just dont smok in the same room as the kid no cause it will get him high but smoke is bad for a child

I've heard of a study involving 3 groups - mothers who drank alcohol, mothers who smoked pot, and a group who did neither. If memory serves, it was about 300 pages. Does anyone know what it's called or who wrote it?

As for the subject at hand, inhaling smoke is not good for either the mother or child. But of course you already knew that.

There was a recent study (I haven't seen it or found out who paid for it) that claimed that children of pot-smoking mothers were more at risk for SIDS, but considering how little we know about SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome? Can you be more vague?) I don't have much faith in that one.

That's your problem right there...you 'heard' of the study... I actually read about the study in my textbook drugs, society, and human behavior by ksir, hart, and ray. The study you're thinking of involved cigarettes not mj.

In jamaica there was a study done and it said babies were healthier if their mothers smoked lightly, possibly due to increased eating by the mothers. Smoking has been shown to be more dangerous in the first trimester because that is when most miscarriages happen. I would say that butter is definitely a better option because the baby does need clean oxygen, not smoke. There is no real evidence that thc hurts the fetus, though.

THC and other cannabinoids bind to two receptors, CB1 and CB2. It isn't actually ever killing your brain cells or anything like that(unlike alcohol). Amotivational syndrome is psychological and builds up over time, but when you stop smoking that will go away...as will the cloudy head shit you can feel over time.

All studies/experiments have failed to find a relationship between smoking and cerebral atrophy...soit really shouldn't hurt your brain...just be careful, you never know...I bet this post is old, but oh well...

i would have to agree with the rest of these people. i dont think there are alot of studies involving pregnant women and smoking. so to be on the safe side i wouldnt smoke.
