| You hit the nail on the head about the effects of depression. It can be said it's like a vortex, sucking you down deeper to depths of pain no human should experience. And with all this pain, your thoughts on trying to get to a clear path of recovery is often smothered in a sense of verigo of emotion. You do things out of your ordinary routines, too much/not enough sleep, lashing out for no reason at those who love you. Being one who has been through the pain of depression and anxiety, for me, pot was somewhat of a safety net. Not allowing me to fall any deeper into depression that would make me do any drastic/harmful action to myself. Now, I've said in the past that pot isn't for everyone. Some folks can get a very nasty reaction from pot. However, I'd like some input from other readers as to a subject of great interest to all here. If pot was made available in the U.S. such as it is in Amsterdam, I would tend to think depression in the U.S. would fall quite a bit. Obviously as well, I would think major drug makers like Lilly and such would see a fall in drug orders. Do you agree? And, do you think because of this fact, major drug makers are a major player in keeping marijuana illegal? Your thoughts? Thanks, and peace to you all

| Except for the fact that most Americans are too brainwashed/ignorant to accept the fact that pot would be healthier and have less side effects then pills. I doubt anything would chance too much. I always laugh at the commercials where they list all these harsh side effects like heart disease and stuff and the pill is to cure acne or something. Once I saw a commercial for an asthma curing pill and I swear the girl said "Side effects include a low occurance of DEATH". And so many americans pop this pills and call mj a horrible drug. |

| If Marijuana were legalized we would probably see a fair decline in alcohol sales, and that decline would be more responsible for a decrease in depression than anything else. Alcohol has a rather nasty effect on mood. Even days after drinking you can still find people more irritatable, and more prone to violence or anger. The same disruption that causes that also makes a good number who drink more likely to slip into depression. |

| To tell ya the truth, I totally forgot about the booze companies. I read in some news magazines (Newsweek/Time/ect) they really have a major influence in any legislation that even comes close to affecting their profits. Jeez, think about it folks, we look back at history and look at shame of the spanish inquisition, and that was all about religion! Image what people will think two or three hundred years from now learning about how so many peoples live were turned to hell by being thrown in jail. Not for religion, but MONEY! It could be said that the drug and booze companies were power mongers as well, but more so, they were just plain greedy. I would hope the future would paint our politicians as nothing more that puppets of major corporations. I think I've seen some political cartoons from the 1800's that showed the very same effect. The ones holding the strings were companies like the railroads and the oil barons, I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same... |
