Does medical marijuana treat both kinds of irritable bowel syndrome? I have the constipation type, and even with about 50g of fiber a day I sometimes get horrible stomach and intestinal aches. I seem to have less issues if I have smoked within the previous week or two. Medical seems to be the only thing that helps, there aren't any OTC or prescription drugs that help IBS. Pepto Bismol helps if I take it the instant I feel symptoms, but that's not reliable enough for me. I live in Oregon, so Medical is available here, but I still have a year til I'm 18.

Marijuana (Cannabis Sativa / Indica) for Irritable bowel syndrome - Diarrhea (IBS-D) Community Ratings - Revolution Health Insofar as '"medical marijuana" is concerned: medical marijuana is marijuana, plain and simple, and visa versa. If you are a registered patient in a given State's Medical Marijuana Program then you are legally (State, not Fed) allowed to grow and/or purchase marijuana from a Co-op or Dispensary. The marijuana in those cases is still 'marijuana' just the same as what a non-patient is able to grow and/or purchase outside the Medical Marijuana Program. Those under the age of 18 are able to gain access to the State's program legally by having an adult apply as a "primary caregiver". Oregon - NORML Good Luck to you...

hey there, sorry to hear about the IBS. i myself have had crohn's disease for about five years now and have been on more than a few meds for it. none of them worked, but guess what did? yep, mary jane. i was losing weight, running to the bathroom up to 10 times per day, unable to exercise, with an increasingly limited and unhealthy diet, and she brought me back from the brink. that said, everybody is different so don't assume anything. plus, my main problem was loose bowels, not the opposite. i would say, however, that once you turn 18 it would be at least worth talking to a doctor about this as a possibility. remember that there are other drugs out there also to try, but imo they generally have more serious side effects than does MJ. good luck to you. be patient, keep experimenting till you find what works for YOU, and you will eventually know your body well and how to control your symptoms. if you have any more questions feel free to reply or message me. cheers.

What kind of doctor would be a specialist on GI disorders? I was thinking that I should talk to them about medical before I talk to my parents about it.

either of you, feel free to PM me or just reply with any other questions you have. i don't have all the answers, but IBD/MJ have been a big part of my life the past couple of years. kpaq, you're looking for a gastroenterologist. btw, *sometimes* IBS problems are caused by food allergies. i know a guy who had it with garlic. so i would certainly pay attention to when the problem occurs. keep a food/meal journal, and look for patterns.
