Question Does marijuana actually get rid of migraines?

Does marijuana actually get rid of a migraine or does it just ease the pain and make it bearable?

Thank you for reading and responding :]

Occasionally I get extremely bad headaches that OTC medication will not help, I can't say that they're migraines because I've never been to a doctor about them (never needed to, they're rare, less than one a month), and Marijuana does, very well, help. In fact, it's one of the few things that does. Sometimes it makes the headache go away completely, and sometimes it just makes it subside to a tolerable level, but it always helps.

I rarely get headaches, let alone migraines, but my wife does. She says she gets different types and it depends on what caused it. She doesn't get direct pain relief from mj, but sometimes the stress relief from mj will help, or it'll get her mind off the headache to some extent. OTOH, it can make her more sensitive to sound, and then the sound from the TV or stereo will make it worse.

I do get severe migraines. Myself, being blind in one eye tattoo a lot. So, before every tattoo I'll smoke a J to help my eye muscle relax. If I don't, and have a 4-6 hour session, at the end.... My head hurts extremely bad. I can say that it can prevent them.

Also, after a session and not smoking. Then, I go to my car and smoke to try to get rid of it, it helps.

This is from the Wikipedia article on Migraine:
Cannabis was a standard treatment for migraines from the mid-19th century until it was outlawed in the early 20th century in the USA. It has been reported to help people through an attack by relieving the nausea and dulling the head pain, as well as possibly preventing the headache completely when used as soon as possible after the onset of pre-migraine symptoms, such as aura. There is some indication that semi-regular use may reduce the frequency of attacks. Further studies are being conducted. Some migraine sufferers report that cannabis increases throbbing and pain, especially if smoked. A pharmaceutical company is currently conducting trials of a whole cannabis extract spray for migraine.
Migraines run in my family. I used to get them about once a week. One day, while meditating, I discovered the "switch" that will turn off a migraine attack. At first, I had to find a quiet place to meditate in order to operate the "switch". Now it's become second-nature. As soon as I start getting the visual aura of a coming migraine attack I can turn it off with a few seconds' effort.

If I could teach this technique, I'd be as rich as Bill Gates, but I've never managed to do so. English just doesn't have a vocabulary to explain manipulating consciousness to effect physiological changes.

I don't seem to get any pain relief from marijuana. In fact, if something hurts, smoking makes me more aware of the pain, just as I become more aware of all sensory input. Back before I learned how to abort a migraine attack, smoking would make one worse.

The reason I actualy started smoking again (aside from the fact that I missed it dearly) was because of my migrains. It does subside a lot of the pain and makes it bearable. The best thing for me at least is to smoke a few bowls drink a glass of water and then passout in a dark cold room and since I can't nap sober, smoking helps a lot!! I wake up feeling like a million bucks.

I think pot is just a painkiller, as well as a mild sedative. They say smoking constricts the blood vessels (which should theoretically make a migraine worse) but I always feel better after smoking if I have any kind of a headache.

And it does make taking a restorative nap easier, too...

I get the occasional migraine, and toking really helps lessen the intensity of the migraine, and it helps the nausea that always comes with my migraines.

Thats real tight man. I just bought a book recently, something like "relaxation, concentration, and meditation", cant wait to start practicing it. This really reinforces me wanting to do it.

And to stay on track, Im pretty sure if Ive got a headache, smoking only makes it worse...
