Definately go tha glycerin route if it's available...but there is a HUGE difference between tincture and oil. Lemme see if it makes sense....

Ok, so Grain alcohol and Evaporating alcohol are two different things, using two different alcohol "molecules" (for lack of a better term right now) but they are effectively tha same thing, a high alcohol content with minimal water so everything evaporates cleanly leaving behind no adulterants. With oil or "hash oil" as I've always called it is a solution of dissolved THC that you strain tha particulate out of. You CAN use grain alcohol, but I've always used witch hazel.

I would always then use a double boiler to cook off tha remaining liquid without combusting my oil. I see a tincture to be tha step right before tha double boiler part. Then you evaporate it somewhat down to a watery sludge....am I correct so far?

So, boiling off all tha alcohol would be a simple maneuver, just put it in a metal bowl and place it ontop of a pot of boiling water....or hell, even on a heating pad set to hi. However, I don't remember any way to consume that oil, tha "hash oil", without smoking it. don't believe that it would dissolve in a cold sprite but instead hang together like a hard lump of mucous at tha bottom, which you could swallow like a pill i guess. Which may work.

I'd leave some of tha alcohol in there. minimize it where you can, tha strength rises exponentially i'd assume (again), so a quarter reduction in tha liquidity of tha final product would be a doubling of potency? Plus it'd cut down on your alcohol consumption, rght?

Whatever. Lemme know if this made sense or if it was just tl;dr because I'm baked off my ass way to early in tha evening and it all seems like a nonsensical ramble that I'm boring people with. good luck vicki

Glycerin should be readily available at any local drugstore.

I've bought it easily all over the State (I use it for curing rattlesnake hides).
If for some bizarre reason it's not available where you are you can easily get it online.

Thanks and bear with me, I'm trying to make sense of it. I had to take an off topic opiate, and it's messing with my head a little. So don't be sorry for being baked off your ass. You're not boring me either.

The last time I made cannabutter, I almost burned it. I'm not good at cooking cannabis to achieve any results. That's why I like the cold tincture method so well. I'm a decent food cook, but tend to screw up when I'm cooking with cannabis. I can boil water for food, but I know I'd screw up boiling down my tincture. Not to mention I need a tincture I can consume. I know smoking oil would be great, but it would be too harsh for my lungs.

Does anyone know the evaporation directions for tincture? Like how long to leave the lid off at a time, how many hours a day, for how many days, etc. I'd really hate to screw this up, but evaporation seems to be the best route until I can get some glycerin. I need to evaporate some tincture I already have made with grain alcohol. I know I will use less drops of the final evaporated product. If that is the case, I may be able to just put the drops right under my tongue instead of mixing with Sprite.

I'd like to get this sorted out before I start my next batch of tincture. I plan on using mostly ABV, with a little fresh ground herb in my next batch.

You can take your drops of tincture and put them on anything edible and wait a bit for the alcohol to evaporate. A chocolate chip cookie sounds good... Tincture is nothing but crude hash oil dissolved in alcohol. Oil is difficult to manage because it's so damn sticky. The alcohol is a solvent that makes handling easier. There is no chemical interaction between the two.

ha ha I KNEW you'd have tha answer buzz. That's kinda what I was getting at, with tha tincture just being diluted oil. Spot on fo sho

Now Vicki, I'd put your tincture in a bowl after it's done brewing and put that bowl on a heating pad. Can't burn it then. Just let it sit on a shelf until it's tha thickness you want. I'd keep stirring it a couple times an hour or so, and make sure you sweep tha liquid across tha drying edges of your bowl to dissolve dried up oil back into your solution. Keep an eye on it and have someone herd your animals away for a few hours, but evaporation will occur and you will be left with a nice bit of medicine.

Having a spot to keep it away from the animals is a big problem if I use a heating pad. I was just going to evaporate the old fashioned way. In a nice, safe, out of the way spot, probably in my medicine cabinet. It's appropriate.

I'm probably just being over concerned, but I honestly don't want to screw up my body anymore than it already is right now.
