As some people here know, I have been making cannabis tincture for a few years now. I always use the cold method, and grain alcohol. When I use my tincture, I put a few drops, between 5-8, in a small glass of cold Sprite, and I drink it.

Well, I have been told by my G.I. doctor not to have alcohol at all, but I did have a couple glasses of red wine on my, and my husband's, 10 year wedding anniversary. My stomach was ok. However, I'm not really concerned about alcohol intake because I can't ever drink again anyway. Yesterday, my Rheumatologist told me I can't have alcohol at all because she wants to start me on a medication called Methotrexate soon.

My concern is the grain alcohol in my cannabis tincture. I don't use my tincture often, maybe 2-3 times per week. I am going to give up my tincture because it's made with alcohol, despite the fact that I am consuming so little. I just don't know how that little bit would affect the Methotrexate.

The tincture does help me, and I really hate to lose it, but I've never taken Methotrexate. As it is, I'm already taking blood tests every 3 months, some of the tests for liver and kidney function.

Is anyone else here in a situation that they cannot consume alcohol, due to a medical issue, but still ingest cannabis tincture?

i found this on google, says it takes 60 days, not sure if that's a short time or long time for tincture, either way, here it is.

Never taken tha tincture or this methotrexate, but here's some info I pulled off of Rheumatology.org. Figured I could pay back some of tha help you've given me

Looks like tha minimal amount you use is fine. I'd make sure by doing some more research, but a few drops wouldn't equal more than a drink a month. Take care chica!!

Thank you very much! I bookmarked that page so I can reference it later. It seems that some people were having some trouble locating the glycerin. It's difficult for me to get out all the time, but I will look at the above reference for possible online sources as well.

Thank you very much! I have a couple Rheumatology sites bookmarked, just for my reference, and I'll add this one. I do know about some of the stuff I read in your post, like the increased amount of blood tests, and having to take a Folic Acid supplement, but I have never seen the "2 drinks a month" until I read your post.

If that is the case, then my tincture usage is really minimal, like you said. Since the frequency of my blood tests will probably increase, I will know if anything is wrong immediately. Hopefully glycerin wont be hard for me to find.

None of my doctor's know I use marijuana for medicine because, unfortunately, I do not presently live in a medical marijuana state. I really like my doctor's, and I don't want to risk losing one of them just because I decided to tell them.

Yesterday, my Rheumatologist was making sure my alcohol consumption had not changed because she wants to start me on the Methotrexate soon. That leads me to believe that she is against any alcohol intake while on that medication.

It really puts me in a difficult position, so I'll have to do my own research and make my own decisions, in the end.

I doubt that a few drops of tincture really qualifies as ingesting alcohol. Unless you're allergic to alcohol, it simply wouldn't be enough to affect anything.

I was thinking the same thing.

Just a thought...but couldn't you let the alcohol evaporate off and use just oil? Does there HAVE to be alcohol in it to be effective for your use Vicki?

I've always made my tincture from the recipe I got here, but I've never tried evaporating any of it. I didn't see instructions how to do that in the recipe section. I always put a few drops in a small glass of cold Sprite. I guess I would just put it under my tongue if it were evaporated, instead of putting it in Sprite.

There doesn't have to be alcohol. I've only used the tincture recipe from here, and it calls for grain alcohol. I'm going to see how hard it is for me to find glycerin.
