| I just noticed that this program is going to be on the History Channel tonight, 8 PM EDT and 12 AM EDT. Might be interesting.

It was remarkably good! It told the history of marijuana prohibition in America in a very factual way, pointing out the racist, political, bureaucratic, and economic factors behind prohibition. It went into great detail about the scare campaigns cooked up by Harry Anslinger and William Hearst to convince the public that marijuana was "The Destroyer of Youth". It seems like the writers used the material in Jack Herer's The Emperor Wears No Clothes as a basis for the presentation. This is just the kind of thing that the non-smoking public needs to see. The program is part of a series called "Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That Way". They showed three other segments about various OT drugs last night as well. I watched two of them and they seemed pretty factual as well, but I'm not familiar enough with the effects of these OT drugs to judge: they were presented as being quite dangerous. It could be that the producers take the view of many of us here that marijuana is pretty benign while most other illicit drugs are potentially very dangerous.

OT = "Off Topic" Discussions of drugs other than marijuana are considered off-topic for this site.

First of all, I'm glad to be here with all of you. I've been coming to this website for a while now, and I finally got registered. I saw this topic and couldn't believe that many of you haven't seen "Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That Way". I saw the one about marijuana in the year 2000!! As a matter of fact, that show is what got me interested in the history of marijuana, it is the reason that I found this website. The show is a must-see for everyone here. I highly recommend it. The History Channel usually shows them every month are so. They really did a great job of showing all of the lies the U.S. Government told in order to get marijuana prohibited. It's the best show that I've ever seen on television about the real reasons behind marijuana prohibition.

There is a documentary narrated by Woody Harrleson about MJ that is pretty enlightening on its history, how close we came to legalizing it during the Carter Administration, and gave us an idea of what society would be like if it were legal. Cant remember the name of the documentary, but would love to see it again. Maybe someone on here knows and can shed some light. It was on the Independent Film Channel a few months back.
