| "The American tv viewing audience apparentlt really enjoys watching people be made to feel like an idiot." people like something they can relate to. ![]() "I don't know about TV anymore. It ain't what it was when I was a kid." see i just dont understand this. when i see reruns of this old stuff it just makes me wanna puke. granted, there were a few good shows...just as there are today. the only difference i see with tv today is that its more honest about its dishonesty. shows like "wally and the beave" always seem to bring out that sickening pie in the sky garbage old conservatives fantasize about. all i see in that show is domestic violence and discrimination hidden behind white man's fictitious image of himself. as for archie bunker... funny guy? yes. funny topic? of course not. it had good intentions in trying to raise awareness of the ramped racism going on at the time, but i see nothing funny about it. i think these two shows weight out with jack ass on the 'disgusting scale'. however, my physical urge to hurl is much higher watching jack ass. what the hell is with that guy? i bet chicks just throw themselves at his feet knowing he likes to swim in sh*t and collect buckets of vomit. the only fine point i can think of about tv 40+ years ago is the media. journalists were neutral, not so much spin. things like police brutality and public protesting were actually reported. gruesome murders didnt share headlines with rosy reports about rich caucasians and their stupid bullsh*t. "some guy got killed today, and on a lighter note, some lady bought her pet a diamond studded flea collar...oh isnt that so precious? come on fellow correspondents, indulge me in a cheep rehearsed laugh before commercial break". on the other hand, today's tv has its qualities as well. for example, recently ive heard a lot of criticism about commercials advertising their products so poorly. i love this! rather than sit there and have a bunch of capitalistic filth shoved in your face you can enjoy a 30 second story before flipping channels. do you realize how many different commercials geico auto insurance had to make before i understood what that damn frog was trying to sell me? and product placement isnt as intimidating as it used to be. what with color tv and all...were on to you pepsi! you think those colors make us thirsty but youve lost the subliminal effect. ![]() basically, i would have to agree with you steph, that tv is on a slow decline. its integrity entirely depends on our social status; and as you can see...its looking bleak. | |
