Another good movie i just saw was "Hamburger Hill", it was just on TNT.. I must have insomnia cause i can't go to sleep, been trying for hours but here i am laying in bed hacking away on the puter

The scene in Hamburger hill when the american chopper came in and blew away all the freindlies made me soo mad! What an idiot!

I'm pretty sure anyone who was in Vietnam probably would be very hesitant about sharing their experiences. War is undoubtedly the most psychologically traumatic thing you can experience.

Oh yeah and just to keep this on topic: I love that part in Platoon where the guy takes a hit through the gun barrel. "Shotgun" indeed!

Default historical accurate movies

I like movies based on historical events, they capture the attention of many people who may become concerned with the events the movie is based on
but a movie is illusion
the event we see on the screen will never be exactly the same as the true historical event

here are two of those

Saving private ryan: It is limited as a history movie
because it focuses only on a single small group of men in the midst of a gigantic battle (Normandy). But Private Ryan doesnt get anything wrong , there are no historical errors or artistic liberties taken. And many veterans have said that the horrific scene of the beach assault is the closest theyve ever come to see

Das Boot:
There is an English-overdubbed version of this movie (called The Boat) but the better version is in German, with English subtitles. The dubbed version is 40 minutes shorter, because they assumed American audiences didn't have an adequate attention span
but the movie is a masterpiece of realism

Smile Band of Brothers

Band of Brothers looks like it is going to be good. I was watching the making of it on HBO. It is directed by Tom Hanks I think and Steven Speilberg(SP?) so it should be good. It starts this fall and is a series on HBO, I think like 6 episodes.

Full Metal Jacket was great, I felt so bad for the suicidal kid when they hold him down and hit him with the bars of soap. Saving Private Ryan had some good scenes, like when one guy goes to put the sticky bomb on the tank and is blows up.

War is a horrible thing.

Thumbs up Get these.

Check this one out: "Stalingrad"

It's a World War II flick from the average German soldiers view, on the Eastern Front - some of the worst fighting in the entire war. Just goes to show we're all humans.

Do NOT get the dubbed version. Just read the subtitles and watch, dubbing ruins the entire thing.

Another one I'd go for is "When Trumpets Fade".
Both are under my "favorites" and deserved to be watched, in my opinion.
