I'm sure everybody saw last sundays episode "Blame it on Lisa". For the 1st time ever i got pissed off at simpsons. Everyting in that show is sterotyped or just plain old lies about Brazil. First of all Homer gets kidnapped by the taxi driver, violance in Rio has gone way up the the last 10 years, and i get why they did that joke and it was probably the only "realistic" joke in the whole show. But when the ransom is given to the bad guy he says "Gee our money is really gay!" when he sees the green dollar bill and compares to our money (which is really colorful)

Ronaldo, the poor kid Lisa adopted buys a door for his orfanage(sp?) so they wont get attacked by monkeys (wtf?!) Brazil is not one huge jungle and Rio is one of the largest cities in the world, it has the largest in-city park in the world too, but im not aware that the monkeys that live there attack people, since its a closed reservation and people are not allow in, so monkeys have no reason to attack people.

ALL male characters have bisexual tendencies. Marge even coments about it.

Bart watches a TV show that there is a semi-naked blond with other chicks "dirty-dancing", that literaly rub them self and seducing(sp?) the kids watching it. Alright this is also true and also kinda of funny, this didnt get me mad, i even laughed...

Besides the pre estabilished ideias about Brazil, there are some MAJOR facts-flaws, like Homer is taken from Rio to the amazon (problably where the monkeys came from!) in a boat. The amazon is all the way across Brazil, is like saying you are going from Kansas City to NYC using the Colorado river(does this make sence? NO!). One more thing, there is a guy named Hermando(thats a spanish name, we speak portugues the right way would be Fernando, like the ABBA song). The confusion mixing latin america and Brazil is huge, all "brazillians" have a spanish accent(wtf?) and that ugly little mustache (also a spanish reference). The Simpsons enter in one of those "conga lines" (a carabiean genre) and the "SAMBA-school" teaches the macarena, which is in reality a Colombian dance!. They should have taught SAMBA not macarena

So this is my rant, if you got any thoughts about this let me know, and i really hope i took some of those ideias about Brazil

I don't think people look to the simpsons for facts. No one considers the simpsons a reference guide to the world. It is supposed to be all in fun. I didn’t hear anyone from Australia complaining when Bart got booted because they don’t actually use a big boot. People expect the simpsons to make light of real events and places. The simpsons is a farce…just relax and enjoy it.

Keep in mind, the simpsons is an american show, made for americans. That's really about what americans think about brazil, nothing but stereotypes. That's the point, they were making fun of those stereotypes. Don't take yourself so seriously! If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

It just got me pissed thats all....
is not like i hate simpsons now, its always fun to laugh about other people and when the joke is on you, you kinda take it seriously....

For what it's worth - that episode actually got me so interested in Brazil that I've been reading up online... sounds like a neat place to visit. I didn't take the jokes seriously at all - hehehe - I'm used to the Simpsons slamming things I take seriously.

There was an episode were the simpsons go to canda (toronto) and when they get off the bus u see a hockey player and a big-foot get off first, wtf?
not all candians are hockey players,and i personaly have never seen a big-foot.
its just a TV show relax

Oh I dunno, when I went up to Toronto I DID see Big Foot. He was driving a Pinto.

But they showed real canadian things, with Brazil they mixed up with the rest of latin america, thats what im saying. They didnt really show anything authentic from Brazil...
