| All I can say is OWN IT. I meant to post this a few days back, but I forgot I had a senior thesis paper to write, and the topic i picked was nuclear proliferation. We were required to rent a movie, and as part of the paper write 2-3 pages on how the movie has to do with nuclear proliferation, or nuclear non-proliferation. This movie shocked me, i knew it was a dark comedey.. but i never thought this movie would make me laugh so hard I'd actually laugh to the point i was teary eyed. Great movie, it's in black and white but you can hardly notice it because of the great acting, and amazing storyline.

| what some people dont know, or at least I didn't is that Peter Sellers, he plays the colonel(not sure if it was a colonel but he's the guy at the base who calls the president) also plays the nazi doctor. But anyway a really really great movie. |

| He also plays Merkin Muffley, the President. ![]() Actually, Kubrick was intending to make a serious film until Sellers got involved. If you watch the movie again, you'll see that many of the scenes - the army assault on the base, the missile hitting the B52, etc. are dead serious. These were the scenes that were filmed before Kubrick decided to make a comedy. The majority of the rest of the film (the funny bits) were filmed afterwards. The resulting mix of the two styles contributes to the sense of insanity and derangement in the overall film, I think. Also, remember the Russian ambassador inspecting a huge table full of food near the end of the film? The film was actually supposed to end with all the generals, the President and the ambassador having an all-out food fight as the bombs fell on the rest of the world. Then Peter Sellers came up with some more silliness for the end - the stuff about filling the mine gap! - and the ending was altered at the last minute. It may not have been a wise alteration, because the film is a bit wierd at the end, if you watch it with that in mind... Some more trivia: when the film was made, the US army forced the producers to show a message at the start stating that the scenario portrayed in the film couldn't actually happen in real life, and that message still appears in the film today. However, it later transpired that this was a lie, and I believe the army actually reviewed its procedures in the aftermath of the film. It's up to the viewer to decide whether any amount of reviewing could temper the madness of nuclear weapons. It's a great film, though. My favorite part is the scene where Col. Bat Guano tells Peter Sellers that if he doesn't get the President of the Yoo-nited States of America on the Phone, he's going to have to answer to... well, let's not spoil it for those who haven't seen it, eh? ![]() PS - Could someone please explain to me why so many people have started saying "nu-cu-lar"? I think it was my arch-nemesis George W. Bush who started it. Lisa Simpson must be really annoyed... ![]()

| If you look in the background of the war room, you can see a table with pies on it. This was left over from when the movie was going to end in a pie fight. Peter Sellers plays Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove. He is an incredible actor. |
