Nah Rambo DEFINITELY cannot be classified as a "war movie" Here's a few real war movies, none of which glamorize war, infact you could argue they'd be great for anti-recruitment flicks! Platoon Full Metal Jacket Apocolypse Now

How is Rambo not a war movie? That's rediculous. Most all war movies glamourize war. Just because they show the dark side of war doesn't mean that they don't glamourize it. Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, etc.: though they all show some pretty bad **** happening, they are still legitimizing war as a whole.

Saving Private Ryan was just a hollywood war story, I don't think it glamourizes was, it just shows it how it really was. Same with Black Hawk Down, it was a book written by one of the soldiers I think, I could be wrong. But these are just movies to show what happens during war and battles, there is no other way of showing war... I don't watch war movies for gore or violence, I like to see stories of men in war, it must be because my grandfather fought in WW2 but I would think more people would like to watch some war movies to remind us of how war really is. It can also just entertain us with the theme of Memorial Day.

Most war movies are patriotic to the max, i was watching the "the patriot" i couldnt stand it so i just left the movie theater. I used to like war movies when i was younger but now i know that wars are not the solution doesnt matter how bad the problem is. dmbtex is right too is it was anything writen by an american soldiers is going to enphasize(sp?) on americans and how their are the good against evil, you think its fair for 6 dudes with bazookas, machine guns, well fed against somalians that dont even have drinklable water. dm

| I don't remember what movie it was from, since about 50 war movies came out after sept 11, but there was this bull**** line from one of the ads where the mother was explaining to her daughter that her daddy might die because he had to go fight for the rights of our country....and they made it seem like the wife was perfectly happy about that. I think the life of your loved ones ranks a little bit higher than your "patriotic duty" to go kill foreigners. Just my 2 cents. | |

Ok, after writing a lengty response to this thread while stoned and lost it all due to my computer freezing, I will try to write another reply. DoritosMan, when 6 men with bazooka's are being chased/attacked by thousands of gunmen with guns and clubs trying to kill the 6 men, I think it would be fair. The reason the 6 men are in the situation is because the gunmen belong to a war lord that is starving the people. I guess since you didn't see the movie, you didn't see the part where the starved citizens get gunned down by the gunmen because they try to take over a truck full of food. dmbtex, we see all the bad **** happen to the Americans? What else would you like the see about the Somalians? Some were shot and some were blown away by rockets and gernades, is there some other way to show the somalians side? We saw Americans get shot and wounded and die, it wasn't a damn one man takes on an army kind of movie, it was a realistic movie where men on both sides die and suffer.....that glamourizes the Americans?.....I must not have understood the movie then? Also, Rambo is not a war movie, period. One man doesn't kill a whole Vietnamese POW camp with exploding arrows....
