| I live near New York City, and none of the channels were showing war movies? I am suprised that TNT or something didn't have war movie marathons. I would think that they would put war movies on every channel this year. Did anyone else in the country have war movie marathons? I'm watching a WW2 documentary on NBC, very good.

| You know what a very real war movie is? All quite on the western front. Thats a very real war movie. No glamour, no victory parades, nothing. Everyone who signs up for the war dies a very crappy death, some more crappy then others. War sucks.

It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable what then?" |

You want more? It's actually a fairly recent trend to show the dark side of war in movies. Yes, it existed before, but it wasn't as prevalent. People are a lot more careful now not to make movies about killing massive numbers of foreigners. ![]() | |
