Default Brand New to the Board

Greetings everyone, this is my first time posting here.

Pontoon, I noticed that you suggested "Koyanasquatsi".

For those of you who like films with a "deep" message I cannot recommend enough the film "Baraka".

Go out and rent Baraka and let me know what you think.

Can you give us any details on this film? Is it a documentary?

Default Baraka Details

It is a documentary that is shot at different locations all over the world. It begins with footage of an eclipse and then it goes all over the world, showing different tribes and people participating in spiritual ceremonies/rites of passage.

Although there is a lot of material covered in their filming, it all flows together. It gets intense at times, but it is amazing. There are scenes of the Himalayas, of Muslim and Hindu ceremonies, and tribes in the South Pacific. Also, there are sad scenes of prostitutes in Thailand and of chickens being mass produced for food.

I am not usually one to be so adamant about watching a film, but I cannot recommend this film enough. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Cheers

Default Dogma

Well, out of the titles listed on the poll, I would have to go with Jay and Silent Bob Strike back...but, I ended up clicking the other option, because in fact my favorite movie to watch stoned is Dogma. I am a big fan of anything Kevin Smith.

This is the most stunning, breath taking movie I've ever seen. I get goosebumps and my pulse races just at the thought of it. At times, it can be hard to watch, VERY hard. But it's equally beautiful and very very important to see. I've yet to meet a person, stoner or not, who has not been touched by it. Anyone with an apperication of the earth and different cultures and religions and how it all ties together should watch this. I'd reccomend watching it a few times, it tells a deeper story than just what's obivous. The relationship between man and earth, the balance between and how it all comes full circle.

Poon, I'd be interested to know if you've seen it because you own Koyanisquatsi and Powaquatsi and from what I've heard, they are fairly similar in context. ( I think the director of Baraka was involved in thoes films, but I could be mistaken)

( I would never describe Baraka as a documentary, it's more like a right of passage)

It sounds similar to the 'Quatsi' trilogy...but was the brainchild of Godfrey Reggio, with Phillip Glass doing the background score! I don't believe Baraka had anything to do with that project.

HERE'S A GOOD LINK to the 'Quatsi' trilogy!
