Thumbs up Apocalypse Now Redux

I bought this movie on DVD a month or two ago. Well, today I was off of school and decided the watch the 3+ hour epic. And I must say that it is an awesome movie. It's loosely based on the novel "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. I mean its a Francis Ford Coppola film. I mean really.

What are your thoughts on this movie?

See it without the new scenes if it has that feature.

Thumbs down I agree with Mr. M!

I LOVED the original movie, and couldn't wait to see 'redux'.

BOY, was I disappointed!

I think it should have been left alone...NONE of the additional scenes add ANYTHING to the movie IMO.

I saw that a while ago...all the new added scenes didn't make it better...they didn't fit them in right

Some of the new scenes were good...for example, when they steal Robert Duvall's (I forget character name) surfboard...and the extra scene with the Playboy Playmates is funny...

The whole French plantation sequence pretty much sucked for the most part...no subtitles! why the f*ck not! I guess we are supposed to identify with Willard (i.e. and not understand French)...the part where he smoked opium afterwards was interesting; slow though.

They should have added more of Dennis Hopper...he's soooo f*cked up on coke! I don't think they added anything to his parts...

If you like Coppola, soybomb or anyone, you should check out The Conversation...pretty good film (not a movie, if you know what I mean).

Default I WILL admit...

...the scene with Duvall's voice on an 'endless tape loop' WAS pretty funny, BUT! There was ONE scene where Sheen smiled big and laughed about it...totally OFF character for the film if you ask me!

From what I've read...Hopper and Stone almost came to blows a coupla times regarding his character. Fuggin' stoners!

You mean Hopper and COPPOLA right? Fuggin' stoner

However, I agree with your comment about Willard/Sheen smiling...it doesn't really fit because he's supposed to be a hard up S.O.B. (shooting the woman so the mission wouldn't be delayed).

Default My mistake...

...YES, a 'stoned moment' for sure! It WAS Coppola!

And how 'bout Lawrence Fishburn as Gunner's Mate 3rd Class (GM3) Tyrone Miller/'Mr. Clean'? I'da never recognized him...he was SO skinny back then!

And then there's a young Harrison Ford at the beginning of the film...couldn't have been more than 20 or so!

Hard asses like that NEVER crack a smile!
