| My favorite film of ALL time! I just got my copy yesterday, and it ROCKS!!! ![]() I waited a month to get it...and definitely worth the wait! The picture is beautiful (actually GREAT for a 34 year old movie!)...and the 5.1 audio is terrific. Not a lot of sound from the rear speakers, but when it kicks in (like in some crowd scenes) it sounds like you're actually there! Any big MC fans out there? I know there is ONE member using the title as a screen name. ![]() "I'm walkin' here...I'm walkin' here!" GREAT scene...and according to Dustin Hoffman, TOTALLY ad-libbed to a REAL NYC cabbie who almost ran him over! Another bit of trivia...Hoffman put pebbles in his shoes to help him with the 'walk' of his! Two tokes up for the 'Best Picture' of 1969! ![]() pOOn ![]() |

| Damn good movie. Great acting by the principals and truly touching and human in an odd sort of way. But, kind of an offbeat choice for best movie ever-- I don't think there's too many people out there that rank this one as their all time fave. So I'm curious, what is it that makes this one your No. 1? -LM

| I've read quite a few reviews...and the one that sums it up for me is it's a 'love story' (purely heterosexual!) between these 2 misfits. I've always considered myself somewhat of a 'misfit'...and that may add to the appeal of watching these two try to survive together. The closeness they gather for one another is extremely touching, considering their rocky start. Of course, the acting is 'top notch'...and the visuals of the 'seamy side' of the "big city" is done with a lot of attention to detail. When asked what he would change about the film should Schlessinger make it again today, there was only a couple of things. The 'bizarro' party scene would have been cut shorter...and he would have punched up the 'orgasm' scene with Bob Balaban and Voight during the gay scene in the movie house. He said an 'explosion' would have made more of an impact...I think it's fine the way it is! As I said...kinda hard to explain the appeal to me. Maybe the era it was filmed in (given the fact that I was an impressionable kid in the late 60's)...add to that the emotion involved between the two...the genuinely funny scenes (as there are MANY...especially Hoffman's little dance while they're freezing their asses off!)...and the "haunting" soundtrack! BTW..."Everybody's Talking" by Nillson WASN'T the first choice for the title 'theme'! He recorded a song ESPECIALLY for the movie ('The Lord Must Live in New York City')...but his existing 'chart topper' was eventually used, making it a MUCH bigger hit song! The gals at the video shop would laugh at me every time I rented it...since I was the only one who ever did. Probably once a month for the 3 and 1/2 years we've lived in this area! Well...gotta go. I think 'Midnight Cowboy' is on TV again! ![]() pOOn ![]() "Well, I ain't a fur real cowboy...but I AM one helluva stud!" |
