I'm sure most of you old time tokers remember this comic book...
first time I read that, we were hitch-hiking to San Fran from
Denver (1972) and these dudes from Arkansas picked us up in
their van...we were on I-70 just right outside Denver and these
guys were going almost all the way to S.F., so these dudes had
some weed (us too) and got smoked up and one of the guys
handed me that comic and told me that I'd love it...talk about a
laugh and a half...Fat Freddy, Freewheelin' Franklin & Phineas
Freak...the way those guys lived (in the comic) was so similar to
our lifestyle, it was amazing! Anyway, they might still sell them in
headshops, I don't know...but if you ever run across an issue,
buy it! You will not be disappointed........................

Thats about 13 years before my birth but im interested to hear about your hitch hiking adventures. My friends dad is kind of a hippy dude and he was telling us how he hitchhiked across the U.S. to California with like 100 bucks, a pound of weed, and some other off topic drugs. Seems cool as hell experiencing something like that.

Nowadays you couldnt do anything like that though, guess thats why it intrigues me.

That is true...nowadays either it would take you forever to get a
ride or you never know if you're getting picked up by some lunatic
or whatever...back in the day (late 60's/early 70's) we thought
nothing of just packing a duffel & sleeping bag & just hittin' the
road...1972 we hitched from Chicago to Denver to San Fran, down
Pacific Coast Hwy. to LA, over to Tucson, all the way up to NYC
(now that was a *****) then back to Chi-town...I'm glad I did it
when I did, especially now married & 13 yr. old son, it would be
hardly possible...but when you get old enough, instead of hitch-
ing cross-country, get a friend & drive...Travelling is one of the
best educations one can get...and it is sad that it isn't like it used
to be...it's good to see you're interested in it..................

I grew up reading about the brothers and FFC! Aside from the classic "Dope will get you through times of no money..." quote, my favorite is Freewheelin' Frankin's "Screw the rent...buy a kilo!"

But on occasion was given HIS OWN ISSUE!

Notice how 'anatomically correct' he is in the pic of that issue?! That always made me laugh, how Shelton went outta his way to remind us he was a boy!
