| One of my favorite shows, hands down. Yes, I know it's not as good as the original L&O, and it tries to make up the difference with sensationalistic plotlines, but therein lies the genius. SVU is more fun(for me, at any rate) for a few simple reasons. One: it's funnier. It should be called Law and Order: Pure Comedy Gold. Sex crimes are really funny, and SVU capitalizes on it. I just picked up the first season on DVD and it really plays up the comedy, and I don't think it's unintentional...it really is a comedy. Two, and this sort of goes with One: The Belz as Munch. I didn't watch Homicide, so I have no way to compare Munch then to Munch now, but he always has some funny lines(and great delivery). Three: SVU cranks up the "babe" factor. We get not one, but two really hot women(Mariska Hargitay...drool. And, uh, the ADA....drool.) All of these combine to make SVU one of my favorite shows to watch, baked or no. But especially baked...it's one of the best shows for me to smoke a bowl to, laugh and ogle. Anyone else?

| While I agree that SVU is an awesome show I take serious offense at your statement. Hopefully you meant this differently than it sounds. Quote:

| I enjoy SVU, and Munch is pretty well Munch. Homicide life on the street, or SVU. ![]() Back in the beginning one of his partners came over too. Can't remember his character or real name, he played the older irish brother on Oz (hbo show). I have to say I never saw any humor in any of the sex crimes (Munch is funny, yes). Never really saw it as an overt comedy either.

| We cannot be far from the day that we have a L&O channel. I love when I have a day off during the week and find a marathon on one of the Turner stations (TNT, TBS), a good 5-8 hours of the best TV franchise on TV. I like some versions of the show more than others, but have never seen a bad episode of any of them. Plus, I've been a big Richard Belzer fan for a while, and he appears on just about all the shows at some point. |

| Ok, I gotta put my two cents in here. GREAT SHOW! All Law and Order's in my opinion...old or new. Yes, some of the actors are handsome and/or beautiful. Benjamin Bratt and Angie Harmon to name a couple. (No, I don't mean a COUPLE couple) However!!! I do NOT see any comedy nor humor in the show. ![]()

And sex crimes ARE funny. You've obviously never heard the sayings "Ha ha, you got raped" or "Ha ha, you were molested as a child". There's an episode in the first season where this piano teacher was molesting his students...and no one wanted to call him on it because he was a good teacher, he really made the kids play well! And then he made on of the older students molest a younger one...how is that not funny? Perhaps you have to be one sick monkey to appreciate the humor, but it is there. Why do you think so many people still like Michael Jackson? Because he's a 'good guy'? NO, it's because he's the source of so many jokes! He manages to foster laughs by destroying the childhoods of young boys, and people love him for it. Now, don't get me wrong here. Just because it's funny doesn not make it anywhere near right, rape and other sex crimes are still terrible things. They seriously mess up the victims and the perpetrators should be SEVERELY punished(and if you don't think so, just imagine what you'd want done to someone who raped your sister, or your mother, or...you get the idea). I'm just saying that there's a lighter side to it. And getting back to the overt comedy of the show, in another of the first season eps(might have even been the premiere), Stabler is testifying in court against an alleged flasher. He refers to the defendents genitalia as his "shortcomings". The guys respone to this? He whips out his dick and waves it around. There is no possible way that that could have been intended to be serious, that little scene was strictly for laughs. | |
